I'm really skeptical to see what this ends up looking like. My mind can't even envision a scenario where even the scan of the original 16mm (or whatever it was) they shot it on looks decent in 4K. HDR would be an interesting experiment to apply to this but the movie video has always looked, for lack of a better term, dirty. Will definitely keep an eye on this one to see how it turns out.

If this is any improvement at all over the mediocre blu ray, i’ll be happy. I adore this movie

Wow, even VCI getting into the 4K game now, huh?

Should be interesting, if nothing else. I have to admit, I'd kind of love to have 4K editions of Aftermath and Empire of the Dark.

Yeah, it has a (very) cockeyed charm.

I have owned Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things on various formats (LaserDisc, VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray). It has always looked pretty rough. If they can improve on this, bring on Don't Look in the Basement and The Night Visitor on 4K next.

USA Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things 4K UHD (1972) (VCI Entertainment)

So um, apparently even VCI are getting into the 4K game. They're planning to release a 50th Anniversary edition for Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things on UHD and Blu-ray. Keep your expectations low.

Quote:
The SET-UP: Five young kinky actors and their artistic director come to a desolate and nearly forgotten burial island, complete with a morbid history of MURDER, RAPE, CURSES and DEMONS. Alan (Alan Ormsby), the brilliant but bizarre Director of the company, has brought them to this foreboding place to dabble in witchcraft; specifically to dig up a fresh corpse and use it in a ritual ceremony which is supposed to raise the dead from their graves. The PAY-OFF: It seems as though Alan has really gathered his "children" here, only to play a practical joke on them and then to party the rest of the night away. However, the joke's on Alan. His bizarre ritual ceremony really does raise the dead from their graves...only they're in no mood to party! NOTE: "BENJAMIN" CLARK is really "BOB" CLARK, the creative director behind the hit films PORKY'S, BLACK CHRISTMAS and A CHRISTMAS STORY among others. ALAN ORMSBY, though he turned in what has been described as "...one of the most obnoxious screen performances in history!", has actually made a mark for himself as the screenwriter for such memorable films as MY BODYGUARD, CAT PEOPLE, KARATE KID 3 and PORKY'S

A very good idea, especially when it comes to this label.

This is one of those instances that everyone should wait for reviews instead of pre-ordering. It's VCI need I say more.

Will there be any reviews if no one ends up getting it due to the company's reputation?

Remembering how atrocious the vhs looked back in the day when I originally saw it, it's almost unthinkable that this film would ever have been able to get upgraded all the way to 4k.

I remember watching this one alone when I was a kid. That wasn’t a good idea, as it scared the hell out of me. I kept waiting for my older brother to get home (we shared a bedroom) so I could relax and get to sleep.
I don’t imagine it still holds up for that scare factor, but you never know. Might just have to get this one.
