I'm really skeptical to see what this ends up looking like. My mind can't even envision a scenario where even the scan of the original 16mm (or whatever it was) they shot it on looks decent in 4K. HDR would be an interesting experiment to apply to this but the movie video has always looked, for lack of a better term, dirty. Will definitely keep an eye on this one to see how it turns out.

I have owned Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things on various formats (LaserDisc, VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray). It has always looked pretty rough. If they can improve on this, bring on Don't Look in the Basement and The Night Visitor on 4K next.

So um, apparently even VCI are getting into the 4K game. They're planning to release a 50th Anniversary edition for Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things on UHD and Blu-ray. Keep your expectations low.

This is one of those instances that everyone should wait for reviews instead of pre-ordering. It's VCI need I say more.

Will there be any reviews if no one ends up getting it due to the company's reputation?

Remembering how atrocious the vhs looked back in the day when I originally saw it, it's almost unthinkable that this film would ever have been able to get upgraded all the way to 4k.

I remember watching this one alone when I was a kid. That wasn’t a good idea, as it scared the hell out of me. I kept waiting for my older brother to get home (we shared a bedroom) so I could relax and get to sleep.
I don’t imagine it still holds up for that scare factor, but you never know. Might just have to get this one. |
