Really enjoyed this, a well-made solid oldschool thriller with some creepy (almost horror) elements, and great performances. Now the story is not original by any means, in fact, if you’ve seen enough of these types of movies you’ll probably figure out what’s going on pretty early. But I didn’t care, just loved the atmosphere, those deliciously well-shot rainy scenes, the immersive sound design - I’m keeping my eye out for this director. And then we have Chun Woo-Hee, she is just fantastic in this, and even if you’ve figured what’s going on with this story before the movie wants you to, Chun gives such a riveting performance, keeping you involved with the movie ’till the very end. Great release on the technal side as well, looks and sounds amazing.
Speaking of Chun Woo-Hee, another movie of hers was released on blu-ray last month (I don’t think there’s a separate thread), Waiting For Rain, released by Ive Entertainment. Lovely release as well, with cards and a nicely designed photobook. Really enjoyed it - again, nothing original about it, for instance it has the «writing letters with voiceover» from Il Mare, and it had a bit of Serendipity vibe (the underrated 2001 movie with with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale). But it doesn't matter, it's still a good compelling story. It seems like the good old melodrama romance has almost vanished from the SK film industry, so when a movie like this comes along we fans should support it. Really enjoyed it, even though it didn’t make me overly emotional. And sometimes the timelines confused me a bit in this first viewing. Loved the cast and the characters, it’s beautiful to look at, beautiful music, well-made and oh yes - a beautiful reveal during the end credits made my heart come out of my chest. Can’t wait to watch it again. And Chun again, shines, I mean she’s my favorite actress now I think (I’m sorry Son Ye-Jin), another stellar performance from her. Got a signed card, anyone know who this is? ![]() |
