Default The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024)

‘The Strangers’ – THREE New Sequels in Production Next Month?

Quote:
Widely considered one of the great home invasion slasher films of all time, it took a ridiculous ten years for Bryan Bertino’s The Strangers to get a proper sequel – the criminally underrated The Strangers: Prey at Night, directed by Johannes Roberts.

It’s nearly been another five since the masked killers slashed up a trailer park, and now, it appears there are fresh plans for their return.

Bertino’s original screenplay was discovered by Roy Lee, the powerhouse producer of hit horror films including The Ring, Poltergeist (2015), Blair Witch, and IT (2017).

Next up for Lee is the highly-anticipated Barbarian, 20th Century Studios and New Regency’s thriller that opens in theaters next month.

Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Lee over the weekend, who was asked about the possibility of another Strangers sequel.

What he revealed is quite shocking…

“I think the next three are in production next month with another filmmaker that people will know,” Lee tells us exclusively.

He didn’t share any other details but the only other time anything like this has happened was with Netflix, who produced three Fear Street films back-to-back-to-back with a single filmmaker.

Universal Pictures was behind the first film while Aviron Pictures distributed the sequel. It’s unclear who is behind the new trilogy, but this should be nothing short of explosive news when it’s eventually announced.

In the 2008 movie The Strangers, the masked trio slashed up Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman at their vacation home, while the sequel took the terror to a trailer park. Any guesses where the new trilogy will take place? Maybe a high rise (I kid)?

Hope it’s a cinema release and not Netflix.

I didn't even watch the initial sequel. The original is terrifying, and was better off standing on its own. Now we might be getting THREE more???

Whatever.

The sequel was such an absolute blast, and one of my favourite slashers in recent years. I'd love for three more from Roberts, but if it's just that Fear Street guy or whatever it'll be a big ol' pass from me.

Curious to see how this develops.

Different to original but very entertaining.

I feel like there's no way it's not streaming but I too hope it's theatrical.

I like the first movie but I prefer the second. It's so entertaining. Definitely underrated. The pool scene is terrific. This is the movie that started my crush on Lewis Pullman. Loved him and his character in this. The main character, played by Bailey Madison, was so stupid and annoying. This was a case where I wanted them to subvert expectations and kill her off and make Pullman's character a "final boy."

Anyway I'm down for these. Hope they're good. I know who's directing it and they're very hit and miss.

God I hope it’s theatrical (which I know it probably won’t be lol). Prey At Night was a blast and easily a top 3 theater/audience experience for me.

I'm stoked. First one was good when I saw it years ago, but after a rewatch recently it's not as strong. Still decent but the charm and dread have disappeared.

As for Prey at Night, that's the most underrated horror film to be released in 10 years. So sign me up for three films, which I'm guessing one for each Stranger.

The girl was SO annoying, omg, I could't stand her and all that melodrama.

Lewis is a real cutie. I don't remember a lot of this film, but if i'm not wrong
[Show spoiler]he dies, right? If so, he would've been an amazing ''final boy'

[Show spoiler] Shockingly he lives. I would have been so p*ssed if they killed him. Especially when she was right there 😛.

Great news! Both of them are scary as all hell, and the sequel really deserved a lot more love that it got. We saw an early-summer drive-in screening and it was crazy effective!

I’ve never seen prey at night but I liked his Resident Evil movie so I’ll give it a go. I loved The strangers, it freaked me out.

I represent the minority opinion and hope for a streaming option as early as possible... perhaps a minority 1...

Loved the first 2 installments!

I'm guessing they either have a similar setup with new killers, or they're "inbetween-quels," because
[Show spoiler]two of the Strangers die in the second film.

I always wanted a trilogy capper
[Show spoiler]about an old, lonely sackhead going out for one last killing spree. The Logan of the series, if you will, just called "The Stranger."

I'm wondering if this might be a slight misunderstanding:
[Show spoiler]he's quoted as saying "the next three" are going into production soon, and the original three killers were killed off at the end of Prey at Night. So maybe he meant the next three killers, and not "we're making a trilogy".
Either way, exciting news. Both movies were fantastic, been... dying for a third.

The Strangers Slay Again!

The original is definitely a classic and a lot better than the sequel.

Genuinely terrifying.

I’m looking forward to another sequel or two or three?
