Arrow Must Watch: Full Trailer - The Box

Quote:
Warner Brothers has debuted the first trailer on AOL for Richard Kelly's The Box starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. This is a story almost everyone is familiar with - about a box with a button that when pressed makes the owner wealthy but causes some other harm somewhere in the world. But in the hands of Richard Kelly, this story isn't that simple. This definitely looks like he's back to his Donnie Darko roots, since those who saw his second film, Southland Tales, know it was a disaster. This looks a lot creepier than I expected. And I have no clue what's going on at the end, but I want to see it.

For those unfamiliar with Richard Kelly, he's the up-and-coming filmmaker who brought us Donnie Darko in 2001 and followed that up with Southland Tales in 2007. The Box is his third feature. Look any good?

Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden), a suburban couple with a young child, receive a wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human somewhere in the world.

The Box is both written and directed by Richard Kelly, of Donnie Darko and Southland Tales previously. The story is based on Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button", which was also adapted in a "Twilight Zone" episode. Warner Brothers will debut The Box in theaters everywhere on October 30th.

I wasn't a fan of Southland Tales and still have yet to see Donnie Darko but the trailer looks quite cool. Plus James Marsden and Frank Langella are both very good actors so might give it a shot when it comes out

It looks like a episode of the Twilight Zone. The episode with the camera. The founders of the camera take a picture of something and the picture shows what will happen in the future. Sounds kinda like it.

HMM very interisting. I don't know just a side thought, but I personally would do it (push the button), why, you ask? Because i wouldn't believe that me pressing a simply button would kill a person. but I would do it for the money aspect of it.

Back to topic. Looks differnt, and yes it reminded of the camera deal showing their future. But we will see.

In the original Matheson story, it's just one of those coffee-table moral questions:
The couple is promised the victim will be someone they absolutely don't know, and a lot of moral arguments follow. Um, that's it, but then, that was enough for Sci-fi short stories.
(See related grumbles on "A Sound of Thunder" vs. Ray Bradbury.)

The Matheson story ends with the wife pushing the button and being told
[Show spoiler]"...Yes, but did you truly know your husband?"
(lame!!)--
While the more familar Twilight Zone '85 edition PC'ed the question into the stranger returning to retrieve the box, delivering payment, and telling the couple
[Show spoiler]the box will next be given "to someone you absolutely do not know"
....Heh. Heh. Karma hurts, don't it?

Just exactly why and where Richard "One Hit Wonder" Kelly saw fit to turn it into David Fincher's "The Game", I....really couldn't say.

The music on the trailer sounds very familiar.

I remember reading about this movie on slashfilms.com. Its been shelved for a while. I dont know the reason. Its usually not a good thing. Unless youre talking about a movie like Trick'r Treat.

The Box? Sounds like the porno version writes itself.

It was an interesting trailer. Don't know if I'll go see this in theaters, but maybe I'll rent it when it comes out on DVD/blu-ray. Was the music from Valkyrie in this trailer, or am I mistaken?
