Arrow Xerxes (300 Prequel)

Quote:
Like it or not, it looks like the sequel to 300 might actually be coming together fairly quickly. We last heard about it back in October of last year, when director Zack Snyder revealed that Frank Miller was actually writing an entirely new graphic novel that he would then adapt once it was finished. In a new update over on ComingSoon, Snyder says that "I know for a fact that Frank [Miller] is writing right now." Maybe all that negativity towards The Spirit finally made him realize he's best at writing comics. "[He's] drawing away and seems to be knee-deep in it. I think he's going to head back to Greece again and do another reconnaissance."

So we know what the story will be about (see below for more details), but what about the style? If Zack does decide to direct this sequel again, will he use the same green screen visual style as he did in the original?

"I think we would use the same technology… I don't want it to look too Star Wars-ian… Just from what [Miller] told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain. We're going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places. There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I'd hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for 300 was not a revolution. It's basically what the weatherman has. Look, instead of Accuweather it's Sparta… It's going to be the same way, but on crazier steroids."

Snyder explained last year that this sequel would take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea (that was seen at the very end of 300). So it's actually not really a sequel or a prequel, but a combination that would seemingly be focused on the character of Dilios, played by David Wenham in 300. To be honest, I'm actually kind of excited for this, and have a desire to now watch 300 again to be reminded of how awesome that was. And even if Zack does decide to direct the sequel, oh well, maybe he'll try to just up the scale but keep the same style. There's no harm in that right? Or does he need to try something new?
I think Snyder needs to move on. What do you think?

Great read. I'm intrigued by the idea of another movie, like the first one. If Zack moves on, I'm sure there are other directors ready to take on the challenge. Considering it's officially a sequel to the movie - which will take place within the movie may be tricky....and if they focus more on character development for David Wenham, do I care? It could be risky b/c he wasn't the main driver for me watching the first film.

I'd prefer Zack concentrate on the Heavy Metal movie, if he is in fact slated to direct it.

Overall, I'm not going to rule this out as being a good or bad idea. I'd need to know more about the story first.

Hmmm. I wouldn't mind seeing another 300 movie or whatever its gonna be called. I studied the material back in the day but don't recall what came after the 300 died. If they do make another one, I hope it goes to IMAX

Frank Miller only made one 300 graphic novel, so I might've been sure that there is no need on expanding the universe of the 300 franchise.

In the article above we are informed that Frank Miller is writting another graphic novel on which the movie will be based.

I was not a big fan of the first one. Too much slow mo crap for me. Annoyed me too much. I think doing this is just as bad as making countless straight to dvd sequels that Warner Brothers and Paramount are King for.

So Snyder joined forces with one of the gurus of graphic novels. I think one's enough for me though.

I am a big fan of the movie and the graphic novel, so if the new book is good, I'll be excited for the movie. If they are going to be doing more on the battles after Thermopylae, it could be entertaining and much grander in scope.

Perhaps it will focus even more on the Battle of Plataea, the battle after Thermoplyae and the 300.

Maybe they can make 300formers where Sam brings magic pixie dust to Sparta to bring back King Leo and the mighty 300 to fight an intergalatic battle against Predator, Aliens and Harry Potter for control over Narnia? Sound good to me.

Yes, but it IS based on the Battle of Thermoplyae, and there WAS a King Leonidas I. Though it may not be historically accurate, it is based on real events.

There is SOOOOO much that can go wrong here. Any mention of 300 and franchise in the same sentence scares me.

Yes, there is a whole war that went on after the events of 300 but any sequel would be missing the point of the original story, which in the words of Leonidas is:"That few, stood against many."
