Well, I have the French set and it's definitely the unrated version of the pilot. So that's good. I think I'll go for the Swedish set once I can get some questions answered about it. Like the cover pictured at Amazon is in English, so is that accurate? Does that mean that the disc menus are English too? Is it 1080p/24? Questions, questions....

It's basically the French set without the isolated scores. 1080i. Lots of Scandinavian releases have English covers with details on back for each country.

Ah, so that's why this new Australian set is all the rage then. Thanks.

You’d be better off starting with the French releases Pilot and then going over to Episode 3 on the Aussie set. The PAL Speed-up is way too annoying to watch for an entire season. In the French/German 1080i/50 transfers (I bought both), it sounds like Erik Stoltz balls are in a metal vice (as does many of the male characters). The theme song is way too quick and hits the ear wrong being out half an octave. Been waiting for a 1080p24 set of Caprica for a long time. At least now the music sounds like Bear McCreary has meant it to be heard.

Having to watch Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones (and now House of the Dragon) and The Walking Dead with PAL Speed-up on Aussie cable broadcasts, and only then being able to enjoy them at the proper pitch and speed when you rewatch the show on Blu-Ray, one really appreciates Caprica finally getting a 1080p24 release.

FYI, Caprica 1080p24 appears to be available on US Amazon.

No doubt! I received the AUS set today and it is glorious. I am finally enjoying the show again. A few years ago, I managed to rip the French episodes to MKV's and convert them to 24. So at least I have the unrated pilot as an MKV. Thank (insert preferred deity here) for it!

Yeah, now that I'm used to the pilot being split in two, I'm totally fine with it. I have no need to watch the unrated version again just to see a little bit of extra CGI blood and a pair of tits, so as far as I'm concerned the only thing I really wish was on this set was the commentaries.

Otherwise, this is the way to go

Indeed. That's the only reason I am keeping the French set. I'll have those extras if I want to play them.

I've no idea and neither does the staff member in my local store who knows me. I contacted JB's head office as to why it was taken down and I still haven't heard back from them. This was about 2 months ago.

I am in the USA and I have the French and Australia sets. Before the Australian set was recently released, I had to convert the French episodes from PAL 25 fps to NTSC 23.976 fps for them to sound right on my old region-locked player. The Australian set is region-free and has no framerate issues. It took Universal long enough!

I ordered the Australian set (edit: last week) and it arrived today! It is 1080p/24 but, for some reason it plays at 60 in my Sony x700 UHD bd player, it may be something with the settings, but, anyway it looks great, and nice to have lossless audio, finally!

Commentaries, the only audio is the dts ma English, at least on the first pilot episode, …it says on the case it has video blogs, is this where the commentaries were taken from? I know with BSG that Ronald d Moore had podcasts that, at least on the Blu-ray set, were added as commentary tracks.

Edit: I’m in the US

FYI I purchased this on Amazon(USA), sold by “Prime DVDs” which seems to be RSM amazon marketplace storefront, except title availability is slightly different so maybe a separate warehouse in the US? Prices (in USD) are basically the same.

I’m reading through this thread and I’m glad I skipped previous releases as messed up audio would not have gone over well with me, got to have bear mccreary’s audio fully intact, in fact, I put BSG on many times in the past just to hear it.

It has a MA 15+ restricted rating, I don’t know how AU ratings go, but I’m guessing that’s similar to an “R” rating, not MA/unrated as in the US, so, …I think the discs are region free and maybe it was just to make the discs more available in more countries. It’s not a deal breaker for me, though, it would have been nice to have the extra scenes… too bad they couldn’t have just added the unrated pilot and have to be able to “unlock” it (parental lock on the episode only), but, I guess it would still have to be unrated. Maybe my thinking is just too advanced. …I assume the extra scenes are not in the deleted scenes, as that would still affect the overall rating of the set?

The Caprica commentaries were separate from the video blogs, so unfortunately all that content is totally dropped here.

All content has to receive a separate rating here in Australia - so if something was rated R in the US, it doesn't automatically receive an MA rating here. Likewise, "unrated" content in the US always has to be passed for a rating here, but it's not a problem - we have a rating higher than MA that can comfortably take care of most things.

In fact, the unrated pilot already has a rating here - it also received an MA rating back when it was released on DVD. Its lack of inclusion in this Blu set is therefore a decision made on Universal's end - I believe it's just that the broadcast version has become considered the main version.

After the show originally ended, a "Complete Series" DVD set was put together, and that only featured the broadcast version of the pilot as well. The only places that have had the unrated pilot released in the time since then seem to be those European 1080i Blu sets, so the fact that it's the broadcast version here makes me think that whoever prepared this set at Universal just assumed the version with the updated effects was the definitive version.

The best way to go is the Australian set. It is region-free and 1080p, not 1080i. Keep in mind that the pilot episode is the censored version, so if that bugs you, you'll have to get the unrated pilot elsewhere.

And yes, the transfer is fantastic and blows the DVD out of the water easily.

Yes that’s it, that’s where I bought the set in July, only now it’s 10% off!

Lightbulb Caprica: The Complete Series (Aug 10 2022)

I have this version….

Would the Australian be something that I would enjoy over my German edition or would it be an unnecessary purchase for me?
