There sure is a lot of threadcrapping in this thread. A pox on Sammy haters. Just got this one in and watched it, and except for the serviceable-but-inferior-to-the-original-film’s voice cast, it’s almost up there with the first film. That’s right, I’m a huge Sammy fan, and I don’t care who knows it. LOL at anyone who thinks the plot of the first film is lame/boring/offensive/whatever. One of my fave modern animated films, with a perfect voice cast (British version of course), a sweet straightforward simple but compelling story, and perfectly integrated 3D that literally unfolds all around you like nothing else I’ve ever seen. The sequel isn’t quite as good as the first one but it’s still really good — if it could have had the same voice cast it would have been a lot closer, although I did like the Big D gangster seahorse voice characterization quite a bit. The long chase scene of the legit scary sharks coming after Ricky and Ella is worth the price of admission alone. Unbelievably crazy 3D. My jaw was on the floor. nWave, I’m now obsessed with ye. I’ve seen six films now — Sammy 1 & 2, Thunder, Bigfoot 1 & 2, and Corgi — and absolutely loved the first five; I was only let down a bit by Corgi, which is something of a mindboggling misfire, yet still undeniably interesting and never boring, and the 3D is fantastic, so I’m still glad to have it. I have Robinson Crusoe on the way and am really looking forward to it.
I must say that Thunder remains my fave nWave, but Sammy 1 and both Bigfoot films are nipping at his heels… Last edited by WaverBoy; 10-30-2021 at 08:08 AM. |

I just watched this one again last night, showed to my girl who hadn’t seen it before. She loved it. And, so did I, liking it more on this second go-round than I did the first time. Picked up on some very clever background business this time that I hadn’t before. And it has one of the best sequences of any 3D film I’ve seen, when the sharks chase Ricky and Ella through all kinds of nasty shit. Absolutely harrowing. If John Hurt had been the voice of Sammy I would rate it just as high as the first film, but it’s only just below it as it is. Excellent sequel.

This Turtle's Tales 2 3D was one of NWave's best and strongest 3D titles. And one of the strongest 3D titles anywhere. A real understanding of what makes 3D exciting, unlike the timid efforts of 3D for many other CGI animation studios.
Keeping things realistic, House of Magic is solid too for 3D along with Son of Bigfoot, but those seem to dial things back more often with medium layers of 3D, and then save the more unique moments for stronger 3D. It's not consistently strong 3D from start to finish in House of Magic or Son of Bigfoot. I haven't seen Queen's Corgi or Bigfoot Family 3D to know how those turned out, but overall, NWave is still the leader of stereo 3D out of all the other studios for the strongest 3D collection of animated CGI films. |

I don't know how to describe the 3D in Corgi because even at its weakest the 3D is still stronger than in many other movies. Medium 3D in an nWave movie is strong in many others. But I would say Madagascar 3 is a close equivalent, medium/strong 3D all the way through with great pop-outs, but M3 has the more outrageous ones.

While I'm hesitant to call any version the "DEFINITIVE" release, I recently obtained the Belga Films release of:
![]() So far, it appears to be the only Region Free release. I have yet to determine if it's a 50gb pressing until a friend tests it for me. Sadly, this release from Belgium is pretty hard to get. I recall another Belga Films 3-D title, Space Chimps 2, is also region free but very difficult to obtain. Anyone have the Russian release? They seem to be more relaxed when it comes to region coding their movies... Regardless, there's around 12 different releases (SEE prior message), so it's not like consumers are hurting...anyone can obtain this prime 3-D movie. Every 3-D aficionado should have this movie in their collection. |
