I wish lionsgate would either license out evil dead 1 and 2 to a boutique label or fix the issues with the sound and hdr color timing themselves they should look as good as the new army of darkness uhd it fixed all the major problems the original blu rays had.

Considering Scream Factory did Army of Darkness, Scream Factory would do the best job with Evil Dead 1 and 2.
Also, Lionsgate did not author Evil Dead 2, StudioCanal did. Shout! Factory bungled Platoon and Weathering With You, but that was because of the masters they were forced to use from MGM and Toho, respectively. MGM prefers the DNR'd 4K transfer of Platoon and forced Shout! to use it, while they were forced to use Toho's poorly-made 4K HDR upscale of Weathering With You rather than make their own. Shout! still did their best on these releases (they even added Dolby Vision on Weathering With You, which the Japanese UHD lacked), and these are the only disappointments from them. Otherwise, they are amazing with 4K UHD releases. Their 4K release of Halloween is great with a new Dolby Atmos remix and the original mono mix, as well as a ton of bonuses. The first five Halloween films in Dolby Atmos is great. Their John Carpenter releases are also upgrades from the StudioCanal versions, with Dolby Atmos audio and the original mono mix of The Fog. They are also releasing Black Christmas in 4K UHD with the 5.1 remix fixed for the first time. I also love how they include alternate video transfers for some films like Black Christmas, The Thing, Halloween, and Perfect Blue. Their 4K release of Belle is nearly the same as the UK release in terms of picture quality, and is the only release that has the English dub in Dolby Atmos. Too bad they had to compress the film in the main Blu-ray to fit the bonus features in, while the UK release put those bonuses on a separate disc. From what I see, Shout! should have released a three-disc Blu-ray + Bonus Blu-ray + DVD release for Belle (with Atmos tracks in both Japanese and English) as well as a five-disc 4K UHD + Blu-ray + 2 Bonus Blu-rays + CD Collector's Edition. |
