This may be the first Fortune Star title that was only available restored in 2K to get a new restoration in 4K... as long as Nameless didn't just blow up the 2K restoration and treat it like a 2K DI. Either way, I'm very curious to see how it turns out.

I have 3 blu-ray releases for this but would love to see a UHD release. I like the artwork on the covers as well.

Fortune Star has recently completed 4k HDRs of several titles and many of these are on iTunes Hong Kong and Canada. Some like the Bruce Lees and first two Police Stories that were Ritrovata jobs finished in 4k SDR had a simple HDR pass, while many that were 2k masters went back to the raw 6.5k scan files.

Ricky I believe is one of the completely new 4K HDRs FS did from the raw scan files.

Good chance 88 might release a UHD in the UK then.

They're mostly releasing Sony back catalogue titles in very limited quantities. PQ is decent for most of their releases. They don't have many UHD releases yet but I didn't hear any big complaints about them.

Huh, weird... though I also know some of the iTunes listings can be... not 100% accurate. I've seen some previews for even "HD" transfers on there that turned out to be SD upscales. If Fortune Star themselves decided to revisit this one, that means anyone with the license should be able to have access to the new master. Well, this'll be interesting, lol.

IIRC, Dragons Forever, Rouge, and Center Stage also show up as 4k HDR on iTunes HK. The Dragons Forever preview looked like the remaster and not some old upscale if thats to go by. Not all previews that use old footage indicates what the actual source will be as Cannonball Run is the remaster despite the preview being some janky upscsle.

Interesting, I wondered if there was that possibility of "eh, just leave the old sample, it's fine", lol. Granted, the 4K restoration of Dragons Forever has been used for HD/1080p releases as well, but who knows?

Either way, hopefully Nameless will follow up on this soon so we can see what exactly is going on with this. It also dawned on me that SOR was actually one of the first 2K restorations from Fortune Star when they were starting to take transfers for blu-ray seriously, as I think I remember seeing a still as far back as 2015 before the older MediumRare disc ever came out.

Yes, SOR was one of the first true HD restorations from FS. The screenshots they published to promote this were unfiltered and therefore hopes were high concerning the quality of the HD master. But then a trailer and the first BD release appeared and it came out that heavy DNR had been applied after those first promo shots were taken.

Also true, and while the 88 Films release's video was a step up over Medium Rare's (mainly thanks to better compression and correct aspect ratio... not often you see 16x9 CROPPED from 1.85), it can still be better... and that's coming from someone who helped a bit on the 88 Films version, lol.

This would be intriguing to see how it turns out...and one of the only times where I actually want the English dub because it takes an already hilariously over the top movie and makes it comedy gold.

I rarely watch anything dubbed. Something like Ricky that I've seen many times makes me cringe to think of them spouting English dialog.

Shogun Assassin is one of the few that I like the dub and that's an amalgamation of two films so I'm not sure it even has a Japanese soundtrack.

I never watch dubs either but for this movie it's not at all something I would take seriously and the horrible English dub I watched long ago in college in the early morning hours just made it all the more hilarious. I'd still insist on the Cantonese mix for this movie, but here I'd love to watch it with that dub track.

The English dub track for this IS hilarious lol. I also prefer to watch movies in their native language but when it comes to cheesy movies like this one, dubs can add to the cheesiness which is the case here, IMO.

I'm sorry, but Story of Ricky is one of the ones where I need the dub, lol. There's a select handful that fall in that category for me, but SOR is one, Master of the Flying Guillotine is another. As long as the original languages are options, of course

Looks like this is finally out…can anyone confirm if the 4K restoration fixed that color grading issue?
