United Kingdom Emily | Frances O'Connor

Quote:
“EMILY” tells the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors, Emily Brontë. The film stars Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”, “Death on the Nile”) as Emily, a rebel and misfit, as she finds her voice and writes the literary classic Wuthering Heights. “EMILY” explores the relationships that inspired her – her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte (Alexandra Dowling – “The Musketeers”) and Anne (Amelia Gething – “The Spanish Princess”); her first aching, forbidden love for Weightman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen – “The Lost Daughter”, “The Haunting of Bly Manor”) and her care for her maverick brother (Fionn Whitehead – “The Duke”, “Dunkirk”) whom she idolizes.

Frances O’Connor makes her directorial debut with “EMILY,” from her own original screenplay. The film also stars Adrian Dunbar (“Line of Duty”) and Gemma Jones (“Bridget Jones’s Baby”, “Gentleman Jack”).

I thought this was decent. The audio was intense for a drama, and there were a couple of scenes that were basically horror. I didn't find it very emotionally compelling. I didn't expect so much drug use. My favorite scenes were the ones where Emily is just wandering around the countryside.

Superb film that needs far more love, went under the radar. Very special. Funny that only Germany seems to have a Blu Ray release. Excellent disc.

The movie was fine although I didn't appreciate the shaky camera or horror-like music. The focus of the movie is also a bit confusing. I'm not sure if this was meant to be a love story or not. It felt like it was heavily influenced by Pride & Prejudice (2005). The lead Emma Mackey looks and gave a very similar performance to Keira Knightley.

What’s the best way to watch this (at home)? It doesn’t like like there’s a R1 release on disc.

Rent or buy it digitally. It's available from most digital retailers.

Nobody seems to be streaming it right now AFAIK
