Default PICO 4 All-in-One VR 128GB Headset

I'm really interested in this headset. I don't think resolution is an issue as such since I am very happy how sharp and detailed 3D movies look in my Quest when using a PC. But there's still some color banding for certain scenes which on my TV is not there. But without the ability to run Steam VR Desktop via the headset version I wonder if the banding will be even worse. It also doesn't have wired streaming, only wireless and I think I would have to upgrade my wifi router (again) after I just did that a year ago.

I feel like whomever is in charge of developing these devices is missing a massive market by not having them being compatible with blu-ray 3D.

I think the market for wearing a VR headset to watch a 3d blu ray is not massive but very niche mostly because you have to be tethered to a blu ray player with an hdmi cable. It all can be done via streaming wirelessly but not the same quality.

If this played blu-ray 3D by simply connecting it to a 3D player I would definitely buy one. I can see others like me doing the same.
If the PSVR2 is 3D compatible in a near future I can see myself getting one to watch my endless 3D collection.

Would become a good replace for a 3D TV backup and not an accessory for a computer or a console to configure a bunch of settings for it to be good enough to play 3D blus. But even with that i'd search for a used passive 3D TV to replace the faulty equipment before buy one of these.

Right now I'm getting an almost perfect picture for colour, contrast and detail and SDE is an occasional problem. So the Pico LCD screen even though this does apparently have good color saturation. What I want to get rid occasional color banding in low light scenes.
So I also worry that wireless viewing won't be much better than my wireless in this regard, never mind my wired viewing.

I definitely would have liked the Quest 2 that I purchased recently to have and HDMI port and support 3D but I just don't see how low cost devices like the Quest 2 or this PICO 4 could justify the HDMI port. More for high end models I suppose.

Future is streaming and I do think VR could be something that increases the popularity of 3D. I was hoping more to use my Quest 2 to watch short you tube videos in 3D which is too much effort on my TV or Projector since it is SBS and you have to press too many buttons to enable it. At some point perhaps get the work done to stream my 3d collection to the Quest 2 as cdx47 does. To me its not comfortable for a whole movie, perhaps I will get used to it. Can't make any comments on which I like better until I get BigScreen app installed. Watching in VR on a TV instead of a big screen on the defualt player is just stupid. I think definitely projector will always be better but not sure if VR of a big theater would be better than a TV.

If VR takes off, I can see Neftlfix, Disney, Peacock all stream 3d content with subscription since I believe all of the VR headsets should support 3d. It would be really cool to use VR for Disney's Califronia Adventure theater or Universal Studios 3D rides and watch it all in 3D. Perhaps all the 3D content that Disney refuses to release in blu ray will be available via streaming by stepping into that theater. I think the reason 3d streaming is not more widespread is because not many have the capability to do this at home but that can change with VR.

The problem with getting a specific device for blu-ray 3D like the Cinera is that that’s all they do.
Something like this that does vr but is also compatible with a blu-ray player would be the ideal device as I would be able to dip my toes in the vr pool.
As for the cost of implementing such a feature, I would say that me spending £449 (as per amazon uk right now) for the 256gb model would more than make up for it.
But I don’t think developers are actually looking at what functionality people what out of their device. They are just following this “meta” craze that I feel is going nowhere.

Doesn't the Cinera cost much more and ran out of money to get the 3d bluray working properly?

Anyhow, I consider the Quest2 something that Meta was losing money on which was why they had to increase the price instead of continuing to subsidize the product to grow their Metaverse. It's basically a high end smartphone with additional hand controllers, lenses, more cameras and the goggles and straps. And they probably do not have the high volumes like smartphones to lower production costs. Plus a ton of custom software they need to develop. I suppose they plan on making the money back in their app store or advertising.

No, the cinera developers burned all the backers money developing the product and doing multiple re-designs to optimize the device. And I believe the Cinera Edge still does not support blu-ray 3D by simply plugging in a blu-ray player.
That is one device that showed lots of promise and ended up as a big fat turkey.
I don’t know how hard it would be to add this to the Pico 4 or sell an usb-c to hdmi adapter that allows this, but for me that is the deciding factor on wether or not to purchase.

I almost bought this today, but after extensive reading and video watching, the color and black levels is about the same as the Quest 2 which means it's worse than the Quest 1. For all it's advantages, the movie watching experience will end up being worse than what I currently have.
