everyone knows that in 2014 a pilot project nick named "space dump" will happen. A large space barge filled with junk, including a large box of the last DVDs to be produced (dated 2012, 12, 21)from one of the last replicators to still made DVDs. It will be sent away towards the end of the galaxy and past it. Sooner after some years the ship will go near a black hole and its gravitational pull will send it backwards through time, and back towards earth. It will miss earth but some of the pods with trash will end on earth in the times of the Maya, their scientists will study the garbage (message from the gods) and eventually conclude the end of DVD as a warning for the end of the world.

One of the greatest concerns for the year 2011/2012 that is a fairly reasonable concern is the sun will be entering it's solar maximum stage.

During the last solar maximum the sun spewed out massive amounts of charged particles towards earth causing transformers in the Hydro-Quebec power system to burst into flames. It left 6 million Canadians / Americans with no power for almost 9 hours.

Some earlier documented "flare ups" have knocked satellites out of space and caused telegraph lines to erupt in flames in the 1800's.

Scientists are predicting this solar maximum will be the most powerful and disruptive in history due to a layer of charged particles that have clung to our magnetic shield that is essentially a 3 mile thick puddle of gas waiting for a match.

And of course there's the usual stuff like gamma ray bursts microwaving us , alien invaders and our sun blowing up.

I'm only quoting the last part, since it gets to the point.

Quote:
When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big sunspots in 2010-2011."

Like most experts in the field, Hathaway has confidence in the conveyor belt model and agrees with Dikpati that the next solar maximum should be a doozy. But he disagrees with one point. Dikpati's forecast puts Solar Max at 2012. Hathaway believes it will arrive sooner, in 2010 or 2011.

"History shows that big sunspot cycles 'ramp up' faster than small ones," he says. "I expect to see the first sunspots of the next cycle appear in late 2006 or 2007—and Solar Max to be underway by 2010 or 2011."

I'm not going to panic until it's going to happen in a few hours.

Until then, I'm going to keep bangin like there's no tomorrow.

Big deal, we have sun spot issues twice a year in March and around Oct/Nov anyway. You can still use your cell or watch your satellite tv as if nothing is happening means, there are people behind the scene are working to get around this problem for you.

Yeah, they had them in Germany. It'd make the channels with crappy reception come in almost crystal clear. I'd be like; "Wow."

i realize this. but the flares will be at their peak that year. they may very well have it under control, but it could still mess with our stuff

I will be camping out in the country, so there won't be an issue there. As long as I am not eaten by grizzlies. I will let those sat companies worry about that.

If we are still in a recession during that time, I'll be pissed.

Similarly, if the University of Georgia has just completed an 11-0 season, and is on its way to the national championship game for the first time in 32 years, and all this nonsense ruins it, I'm going to be pissed.

I wish whoever is in charge would think of me.
