It looks like Shout is releasing all the HK wuxia/fantasy films previously released by Eureka. I already have the Eureka release, but I might double-dip if there's anything worthwhile added.

I've actually never seen this one. I have second the 2001 version also directed by Tsui Hark, but I'll be checking this one out for sure.

It's a crazy fast movie, even by Tsui hark 's standards haha. Its great.

I hope they at least give it better subtitles than the Eureka one, in which the English grammatical structure isn't 'natural', and where the subs haven't been sensibly done for reading length, necessitating in rewinding the film at some points to read.

This is so true. This film is definitely more of a style-over-substance film.

Also, this is not the best entry point for getting into Tsui Hark films.

I loved it the first time I saw it years ago, I think because I liked offbeat fantasy like Terry Gilliam etc.

I'm glad they're including the alternate English cut, it's at least worth a watch as a curiosity. The wraparound stuff they added was...interesting.

Got this a few days ago, but haven't had a chance to watch, but did skim through it and it looked great. Will be watching tonight for the first time. Looks like an insane ride.

Watched this last night for the first time and enjoyed it. As others have mentioned, the film is FAST. If you miss a minute or two, you might have just missed a lot. It's a fun film with a lot of heart and genuine characters. It's Wuxia mixed in with a lot of fantastical elements, but I enjoyed it. Picture quality was top notch, I just wish I could change the audio options mid movie instead of having to go to main screen to do it.
