Default The new '2012' trailer will make you cry tears of fire and carnage

Ladies and Gents:

This is the New Trailer for the movie 2012. Thought I should share it, and discuss your thoughts about this.

Here is the link:

http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009...2-trailer.html

As for me it looks great, but i get the feeling that this trailer showed everything and that the feature will be a disappointment once it comes out. The reason mainly is due to the director of the title Roland Emmerich we all know him though his great film ID4. However with every new title he directs it gets more disappointing than the one before ending with 10,000 BC.

Aug 26:

UPDATE

Japanese version of 2012 Trailer. Looks Cool.

Quote:
It must be trailer week at Sony Pictures International. Yesterday they released an international trailer for Zombieland, and today they’ve released a new Japanese trailer for Roland Emmerich’s new disaster flick 2012. It might start off similar to the previously released domestic trailer, but about half way through we begin to see a lot of scenes and sequences we haven’t seen before. We also begin to learn more about the story — where are the main characters going? How will they survive? The countdown clock is introduced.

To be honest with you, I’m more excited for this film that I should be. Yes, I’m not expecting a great movie, or even a good story, but the sequence we saw at Comic-Con with a limo outrunning an earthquake was so ridiculous yet fun, in all the ways that Transformers 2 should have been, but wasn’t. Check out the new Japanese trailer embedded after the jump. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. 2012 is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors. Starring John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt. 2012 hits theaters on November 13th 2009.

UPDATE AUG 27TH:

Awesome 2012 Theatrical Banners check them out:

Quote:
Yesterday we featured a brand new Japanese trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012, which seems to have more death and destruction than we've ever seen before. Today Empire has three new display banners for 2012 designed to be displayed in movie theater lobbies around the country. At first I was just going to say they look pretty detailed, but then I started wondering, will destruction really sell this movie? All of the advertising for 2012 (which was heavily designed by Emmerich himself) has pretty much been all about the destruction - we haven't seen John Cusack or Amanda Peet's face anywhere. But will that sell audiences?

An academic researcher leads a group of people in a fight to counteract the apocalyptic events that were predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar. Cast includes John Cusack, Amanda Peet, & Chiwetel Ejiofor.

2012 is directed and co-written by epic German filmmaker Roland Emmerich, of films like Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, and 10,000 B.C. previosuly. It was also co-written by Harald Kloser, of The Thirteenth Floor, The Day After Tomorrow, Alien vs Predator, and 10,000 B.C. as well. Sony Pictures is bringing 2012 to theaters everywhere on November 13th this year!

UPDATE

AUG 28TH

THIRD BANNER REVEALED

Quote:
Centuries ago, the Mayans left us their calendar, with a clear end date and all that it implies. Since then, astrologists have discovered it, numerologists have found patterns that predict it, geologists say the earth is overdue for it, and even government scientists cannot deny the cataclysm of epic proportions that awaits the earth in 2012. A prophecy that began with the Mayans has now been well-chronicled, discussed, taken apart and examined. By 2012, we’ll know – we were warned.

John Cusack stars as Jackson Curtis, a writer whose devotion to his failed-but-possibly-brilliant novel broke up his marriage and left his family in flux. But Jackson remains a loyal dad and when the chips are down, he will prove he will do anything to save his family. Amanda Peet plays Jackson’s ex-wife, Kate, who maintains friendly contact with Jackson but has long tired of competing with his work for his attention. As the earth’s plates start to shift – destroying L.A. in the process – Jackson and his family will begin a desperate journey by land and air to survive to see the new world.

Meanwhile, at the very highest reaches of the world’s governments, there is a plan. They will not be able to save the entire human race, but they will be able to save some, and those will have the chance to begin society anew. President Thomas Wilson, played by Danny Glover, is very quick to understand the crisis the world is about to face – and equally quick to prevent mass hysteria by keeping the information secret. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the president’s chief science advisor, Adrian Helmsley, who has managed to decode the earth’s messages and is determined to do what he can to help as many people as possible. Carl Anheuser, the president’s chief of staff played by Oliver Platt, might be pompous and quick-tempered, but he is equally determined to see society – at least, those in society who can afford it – survive.

Thandie Newton, playing the president’s daughter, Laura, is shocked to find out what her father’s government has hidden from the world. In fact, it seems that the only man outside the government with any clue as to what is about to happen is the radio host (and maybe prophet) Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson), who broadcasts his predictions to anyone who will listen.

Update:

September 4th:

New Poster.

UPDATE:

Sept 8th:

A NEW CLIP

A merely simple scene with humor.

Quote:
Up first is the clip from 2012, courtesy of MTV. If you thought for a moment that this movie might be less idiotic than all of Roland Emmerich’s other movies, this clip should kill the doubt. BUT, there is something beautiful here. This is the clip that made me realize the awesome Zlatko Buric, who played the drug dealer Milo in all three Pusher films, is in 2012. (Here’s the trailer for Pusher 3, which is the one that really features Buric.) He’s the guy in this clip that leans up and helps John Cusack get the car started. (If you can’t see the clip, try this QuickTime link.)

Enjoy.

Impressive special effects. Yeah I'll watch this movie when it comes out.
My only regret is that this stuff won't really happen in 2012
I guess one cannot get it all the way one wishes.

Thanks for sharing the trailer.

I'm a sucker for end-of-the-world movies. I may actually get a book or two on the whole 2012 thing. I just need to avoid the crap books out there on the subject which make up about 99.9% of available material.

I also believe they showed too much on the trailer, unless there is MUCH MUCH more in the movie!

If you want to be serious on this issue for a second, I don't think you'll find any "good" book on this 2012 end-of-the-world stuff. Any self respecting writer could only write about the reason for this date which is rooted in Mayan belief. Such books would just be "history" books on the vanished American civilization.
Any other book claiming actual end of the world on that date is just cheap scribbler material greedy to make a few quick bucks off gullible or naive people.
It's as if someone claimed that the sun is not a ball of molten material sustaining itself through complex nuclear reactions but instead a god with soul and thought just because the ancient Egyptians believed so.
Or why not, while we are at it a book on Santa Claus having been actually spotted somewhere at the north pole ...

I believe there a handful of things scheduled to happen at that time. Some alignment deal in space, a near-miss of an asteroid etc.

I like to keep an open mind on things and not have blinders on things they may seem uncomfortable.

I do actually plan on looking for some academic/historic writings on it, and not the dribble that sits on that huge table at the front of the major bookseller chains.

I will plan a party, maybe even have a generator around just to freak out my guests. If the world ends, I'll say "well shit" and die. If not, I'll experience a different kind of end-of-the-world the next day with a crazy-bad hangover.

Anyway:
The market may crash for good when the HUGE numbers of people retire around that time and are forced to begin taking payments from their 401K's. That means selling small amounts of stock to receive those payments and in the numbers I'm looking at, those sales could drop the market, scare the old people into lump-selling, quicken the dive and crash the be-otch.

Want to be scared? Most people just recently found out what their 401k's actually were: ownership of stocks. They discovered it by losing an average of 40% while "extending" their time-to-retirement to the day they drop dead.

Keep an objective mind on things, and your eyes open. I'm just sayin'

I will go watch this movie because I can afford the $10. I will not, however, say "Looks like crap, I won't go see it but I know I wouldn't like it anyway."

Oh, and there are many ways for "the world to end." It might be better stated as "our way of life ending."

HA! See, I knew there were some odd things happening at about the same time.

But if she did a Playboy spread on that day, we would know the world was NOT going to end... none of the hundreds of different higher powers in the world's religions would end the world on that day.

My take on 2012..

The Mayan calendar ends on 12/21/12. It does not speak of impending doom or end of days, it just ends. Maybe they ran out of cute kitten pictures for their calendars, I don't know. Some scientists believe that the earth will be in the center of the milky way and gravitational forces can change the earths polarity (s.pole becomes north and n.pole becomes south) which can change tides and ocean currents which controls weather. Massive coastal flooding, polar caps melting, extreme weather, you get what I am saying.

The Mayans were not fortune tellers but were way ahead of any other civilization when it came to astronomy and stellar movement. They predicted solar eclipses, luner eclipses and comets paterns to the date.

We humans who are more driven to destruction than creation believe that the "End of Days" is coming. Every religon teaches this and many people believe that one day a God will bring wrath to mankind in the form of world destruction.

Perfect time for Hollywood to come along with another "End of the World" movie to get people in the seats. I personally LOVE these type of movies and will see it in the theaters and own it on Blu when it is released. Good job Hollywood.

Also it's way to close to Christmas, that just cannot happen!

That is a crazy trailer. I looked down and saw this quote at the bottom of the link

Quote:
Judging by this trailer, 2012 is nothing but scorched earth, giant waves, and John Cusack and Chewitel Ejiofor getting paid. Wanton crap-exploding for two whole hours. And that last shot, with the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy crushing the White House?

Michael Bay, you just got served.
Those were my thoughts. This looks like a Micheal Bay Movie with explosions and chaos for 2 full hours.

Yup I'm a fan of John Cusack and Chewitel Ejiofor, and I suspect one of them will do the whole "sacrifice" thing near the end.

See Grevlin, the force is strong in this one.. We should start a "End of the World" club and fund it by selling our own Cool Aid flavors. Oh, wait that might not sell.

This is Michael Bay on steroids and speed

As for the Mayan calender thing, isn't 2012 just an ending of one of the cycles?
I remember hearing something of that sort about how they had cycles and there calender has also ended like 4 other times. I've never really read up on it a lot, but i would really like to.

Also, those guys were crazy....their calender is actually more precise than ours

Oh, and they had two separate calenders, a ritualistic one and a solar one...which ends in 2012 or do they both?

That's why I'll be conducting what I call a "shits and giggles" research study on this whole bid-ness.

I bet right before the movie hits the History Channel will be airing all those specials they have on 2012 and the apocalypse, and boy are there quite a number of them.

That is absolutely impossible. No Scientist could ever believe that. The reason is simple, the center of the milky way is about 25 thousand light years away from Earth's location. Meaning if somehow it suddenly began moving at maximum speed which is the speed of light, it would still need 25 thousand years to just reach the center, assuming it lightspeeds in the right direction. So no way it can be there on time for December 21 2012

And if it tried, then we'd be dead anyway due to the unthinkable speed acceleration it would need to achieve such mind-boggling speed ...
