The lights can be sound activated if you get their special $200 controller which will also do tons of other things like allow for IR control, dimming, custom colors, etc. |

Leo, I'll tell you though, most of these people with the color lights don't use them while watching a movie. There may be a few, but mostly they are used for effect, like maybe when just listening to music. The reason you don't want to use colored lights behind your display when watching a movie is that the background color will mess with the display colors, in your mind at least. Ideally, you want to use a bright white color for true bias lighting, 6500k is perfect. That bright of a white will make the whites stand out when movie viewing, and your blacks that much more blacker. I have a white rope light I got from Lowe's for 8 bucks that wraps around the back edge of my 50" display. It is not 6500k white, but does help with eye strain when viewing in a all black room. Here are some pics of galleries from other members. You can click on the following members names to see there entire gallery, I recommend it.

I was looking at the Cyron website: http://cyron.com/Merchant2/merchant....tegory_Code=HT Which of these products are the ones that most people are using? I have a 50" Pioneer Kuro, and I'm not sure which would be a good choice. Do the Cyron lights or Ikea Dioder lights have a setting for white light, among the other colours? |

I have a Cyron kit (pics in my HT gallery) and as liquidice pointed out, I don't use the color modes for movie watching. About 99.9% of the time they stay on white. The white really helps IMO for movie watching and I recommend you get some kind of lighting for your setup, but the closer you are to 6500K the better.
