Has anyone checked to see if the supplements will play Region A as well?

Thanks.

They do.

Actually is it possible to have various features coded differently on the same disc? I don't think I've seen that before....

If you encode them in SD PAL most US players won't be able to play them.

I just might have to get Anthropophagous when Severin Films releases it onto Blu-ray in America. I've actually never seen it before.

It's a curiosity at best. I doubt I would have paid the original price had the documentary not been included
The sequel that is not really a sequel , Absurd is much better IMO. The US has it on dvd as "Horrible".
Hello, stranger.

It's not very good. It has a few moments that are worth a curiosity viewing that make up maybe 5mins of the total runtime.

Absurd is far better and well made.

I watched it fully expecting to hate it. It's not quite as bad as its rep. It manages to build some tension, almost in spite of itself, just due to the setting and due to how long they wait before any reveals. The abandoned island is a good location, even if it seems directly ripped off from Who Can Kill a Child. The monster is actually kind of creepy, due to the crappy makeup working well with George Eastman's face/performance. The score is inept to the point of hilarity in many scenes, which also keeps it alive. It's definitely badly made but isn't without its charms.

If I'd paid for it by itself instead of getting it as a perk with the resto project I might have been mad I'd spent the money though

I'm another who thought Absurd was much better. Absurd, surprisingly, manages to make it into very good territory because the setup (not giving spoilers) gives for a very tense sequence at the climax.

It at least has the sense to rip off Halloween, rather than sticking some gore scenes into travelogue footage. Given the time it was made, I was looking out for an accidental glimpse of Judith Chalmers in the background.

I always preferred Anthro to Absurd. Absurd is a little quicker paced and the gore scenes are more frequent but I love the deserted island setting of The Beast and George Eastman looks as nasty as hell. I do genuinely like them both although I would only recommended these to those who have already got a few hours of Italian exploitation movies under their belts.

They're both pretty poor.

Horrible. Never has a film been more aptly named (except maybe Violent Shit).

I'm watching the rerelease now and for the life of me I can't work out if the actors are speaking in English or Italian. I know that they didn't do sync sound but I can usually work it out. Any ideas?

I watched this for the first time in almost 2 decades yesterday. I had forgotten what a great movie it is and this was obviously my first time watching it on Blu. Love the setting and slow burn atmosphere.

Hellllooooooo, 88 Films! While you're busy restoring multiple other Italian "video nasty" horror films from this era on 4k uhd, PLEASE do NOT overlook The Savage Island/Anthropophagous! Its 16mm will render up a sweet 4k scan with some gorgeous grain, and its atmospheric, colorful setting and cinematography would be greatly elevated by wcg and hdr. You can make this happen, 88!!!!!!! Let's do this! If you nail the enode, you can put me down for three copies.

I think a UHD is inevitable. If not by 88 then by Severin.

From your keyboard to the boutiques' production desks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh god yes! I actually like the colors on the Severin blu just fine. I have the 88 remastered blu too, but quite frankly, I'm watching the Severin blu right now. Based on what I just received from 88 with Cannibal Holocaust on 4k, and what I just received from Severin with Four Flies on Grey Velvet, I'd be ok with either boutique punching this out in 4k uhd. Might as well make it a full-blown party and drop Absurd on 4k, too. (OK, I'm being greedy)

The stuff in daylight always looked overly bright in every video incarnation I've watched. If this is correctable then count me in for a 4K upgrade, otherwise I fear needing sunglasses to watch this in HDR

It's always been a bit overbright and slightly blown/clipped on all prior masters. As is typical of most 4k uhd's, we should see a slightly darker, warmer, more composed presentation that settles things down nicely and looks more like a proper print.....and then we'll have folks whining that it's too dark LOL.

The thing that has me slightly worried is the thankfully minor but still distracting print damage visible on the most recent 2k transfers, in the form of color instability and some occasional yellowing/staining, especially during the first 20 minutes. Some of it likely can't be repaired, but perhaps minimized on a 4k resto. Either way, it should be a big step up from the prior 2k efforts. And for folks worrying that a 16mm source has limited detail to garner gains from, the gains won't just be all about "fine detail". Some of my favorite new 4k uhd masters have been from 16mm film sources. Grainfield, colors, black levels, contrast and depth should look truly great here.
