Make no mistake Halo3 will be a big boost to 360 and Microsoft, but to say it or any individual game will end the console war is ignorant.

I personally do not know anyone who wants Halo3 who does not already have a 360. I see Microsoft's advantage continue to shrink in America and world-wide, espically through this christmas season...

if they take off the number of replacement units from the xbox sales im sure they will cut a huge chunk off, however the system is in the cheap range now, and people will still buy it, despite its tendancy to expire.

I understand 360 people thinking the 360 will outsell and be a better gaming system for awhile. I totally get that. What I do not get is the people who think the 360 will always be better than the PS3. The 360 has practically hit a wall on what it can do meanwhile the Ps3 is just scratching the surface. It is just a matter of time. Reguardless of what that means to you it is true. Eventually the PS3 will catch up.

If the programmers have already hit their stride with less than 2-year old "next gen" console, it's not really next gen.

You bring up a good point...and how much longer can the DVD format really go when it comes to using them for gaming....?

Console wars don't strike me the same way that a format war does. Sure Xbox has Forza, but PS3 has Gran Turismo. X has Gears and PS3 has Resistance. The thing about console wars is that if there is an exclusive title for one, the other will just make a similar title. If HDD made a Spider-man equivalent, it would be sad and depressing (just like every owner, buyer, player, and disc affiliated with HD DVD).

The console war is different than the format war. There can be more than one game console, but there can be only one HD format that wins in the end. I'll never buy another HD DVD, but I have two copies of Halo 3 preordered.

I think so too. Halo may give 360 sales a boost in North America, but let's not forget that in Japan the only way Microsoft can move 360's is to give them away for free. The two biggest console markets are North America and Japan, and the PS3 is gaining ground in both countries. I think it's only a matter of time before Sony has caught up with Microsoft.

Halo is getting old. We're already in v3.0. I've played shooters for years and was very unimpressed with Halo. Those that are Halo fans have for the most part already adopted the 360. I felt that the first Unreal Tournament was better. It'll boost sales for the Holidays, thats it.

The real console movers will be Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Announcing exclusive remakes of FF or DQ would be, in lack of a better term, epic for PS3 sales. Especially in Japan, they are DQ addicts whereas north America is FF addicts.

That's the point really. These guys always argue, "Halo is so big, dude. You don't even know." Yeah, actually I do know, but no one who doesn't already have an X-Box cares. It's an existing name on that console... nothing really new to most consumers. When FF comes out on PS3 it will be an existing huge franchise, like Halo, but it will be entirely new to the console and improved over its old version... THAT actually will move consoles.

Halo 3 will push 5 million units if it does not get scewered by the reviewers. FPS belongs to the 360. Which explains why it does well in North America and so poorly in Japan. What is funny is that computers do FPS much better, so the demand for the 360 is rather limited.

The 360 will probably push 10 million over the next 6 months. Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Halo 3 have given the 360 some excellent titles. No doubt.
However, like everyone has stated, the 360 has hit its stride very early, with the PS3 slightly lagging, and will eclipse the 360 in terms of quality product by next spring.

A drop to $399 and a few winners, like GTA4 (comparable to the 360), FFXIII, and MGS4 will push the PS3 closer to the 360.

What will be interesting is whether the price drop with the compliment of including Little Big Planet will take away the dominance of the Wii this generation. This game will push the most units. Everyone will have it.

The most positive thing the PS3 has had in the last couple of months is that Warhawk was well received. The largest drawback for PS products has been the inability to do online. Warhawk abolished this and probably has a few 360 fanatics questioning their choice.

And that's the other great point. When people spend this much on a console... are they really so narrowminded to just be thinking of what is available right now?

Well I'm not so sure about that. Of course time will tell, but right now it seems nobody's catching the Wii. If you're talking market share, the current console market seems to be a duel for 2nd place behind Nintendo.

It took in $120 million in revenue in the first week. It's the #1 game on Xbox live ever, and has sold over 10 million copies at last count.

People were pissed at the cliffhanger more than anything. And they were suffering from "shiny syndrome"

Halo, like The Matrix, and many other things before it was many people's first experience with an FPS since doom, because before Halo the genre was pretty much unplayable on console. So it became this bastion of amazingness to them, and when the sequel didn't offer a lot new they got all pissy

Halo is...OK, but everything new in it had been done on PC up to a year earlier.
