Good flick. Having read the book, I was not mortified with the changes. The original films were Chevy Chase vehicles - and good for that - but this goes in a different direction.

Fun movie. Shame it was basically dumped - I would have liked to have seen further movies with Jon Hamm as Fletch.

There's still a chance - director Greg Mottola was on a recent episode of Laker Jim's Fletch Cast podcast and said that the studio has already paid him to write a draft of the next movie (based on another one of the books - Fletch's Fortune, IIRC). So, while it's not a guarantee that it will be made, it's definitely reason for hope.

The original Fletch is one of my all-time top five movies, and I love the majority of Chevy Chase's filmography, but I also am a big fan of the Gregory McDonald books, and thought Confess, Fletch was a blast.

$31.99 for this is insane, I'll wait until it's under $10.

I know it's based off a book but Chevy Chase made that HIS role and I cannot accept anyone else playing Fletch.

I haven't read the books in 30+ years but when the Countess pronounced his name as "Flesh" I got a massive flashback to that specific book.

I didn't hate the first Chase film (never saw the second) but every time it veered off into goofy slapstick land I winced. When he wasn't being overly goofy I thought he did a pretty good job with the character. Hamm really nailed the character from the books (or at least what I remember from 30 years ago).

Really glad this got announced, I was fearful it would be stuck in streaming purgatory.

Well, if you're ever in the mood for a solid little mystery-comedy, you could throw this on and pretend they're calling him "Mitch."

It will ruin one running wordplay gag by The Countess character, but otherwise, everything will hold up nicely on its own merits.

Way to keep an open mind there.

I enjoy the Chevy Fletch films, and I also enjoyed this too. The only significant difference is that this doesn't have the goofy characters that Fletch affects while wearing his disguises.

So sue me?

No offense to those who liked this iteration. That's just how I feel.

I’ll definitely pick this up at some point! Really hoping they make more of these. There’s definitely been an uptick in interest in murder mystery movies lately, and I suspect that films like this aren’t incredibly expensive (at least by comparison).

Felt the same. Long haul flights make a good place to watch these ones I think will be garbage. Got a chance to see it and found it was done really well and want even more of the John Hamm versions.

I'll probably get around to it eventually. I'm just usually a curmudgeon about Hollywood using material that had already been covered to much acclaim. It's good to see that people enjoyed this new iteration.

I wouldn't exactly say the Chase films were much acclaimed, particularly the second one.

In hindsight it's very odd that they went with an original story for the sequel to the original "Fletch". There were like 6 Fletch novels out by the time the first movie came out, they had plenty to work with. It'd be one thing if the movie they came up with was any good, but have y'all seen "Fletch Lives" lately? It's a mess. Cleavon Little is good in it, but it really fails to live up to the first. They might've gotten past the 2nd movie with Chevy if they stayed faithful to the source material. Thankfully it seems like that's what they're doing with this new Jon Hamm interpretation, it's a lot more back on track in that sense. I really hope this version continues in some way despite the pretty atrocious box office returns.

I love Fletch Lives. It's one of my all time favourite comedies. I fully admit though that it's probably nostalgia driven. Objectively looking at it, I can see why it didn't do all that well critically or commercially.

That being said, the Hamm film is generally a much better representation of McDonald's character. The fact it didn't do well is disappointing, but it didn't seem like it was given all that much of a push by the studio. It didn't play theatrically where I live even though I would have definitely gone to see it on the big screen, and it's only now trickling out on disc. I guess that's just the way things are now when it comes to non-tentpole films.

I really do hope there's a way to overcome that, because I also would really like to see the series continue.

Andrew Bergman, the screenwriter of the first Fletch movie, wrote a screenplay that adapted “Fletch and the Man Who” to follow up the first Chase movie, but it was rejected.
