Arrow Stephen Dorff Headlining a Blade Spin-Off Prequel Series?!

Now, I think (could be wrong) that the rights of the Blade characters have reverted back to Marvel in the absence of a Blade movie. I think the time line is 5 years without a sequel and they get it back. If that's the case, I doubt these will happen, but who knows?

Quote:
Where the heck did this come from? The Sunday Mail in the UK is reporting that actor Stephen Dorff is going to team up with filmmaker Stephen Norrington for a prequel spin-off of Blade that will be about Dorff's vampire villain character Deacon Frost. "It will be a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon's story. It's a new trilogy the director has created. It will [be] cool," Dorff explained. "We hope to shoot the first film next year. Frost is a character I have never been able to shake." Is it ironic or just mere coincidence that both Dorff and Norrington's careers bombed after Blade? And yet now they're teaming up once again?

The very last Blade movie we saw was Blade: Trinity in 2004 and most people hated it. But oddly, Dorff only appeared in the first Blade (as seen above fighting Blade), directed by Stephen Norrington, back in 1998. Although I haven't seen that first Blade in a long time, I really can't imagine seeing a movie about one of the villains. I don't remember much about him, but I guess with the success of Twilight as well as the Underworld franchise, Dorff and Norrington must have thought they could pull this off nowadays. "I would rather be in a good, small film than a hit which wasn't any good," Dorff says. Maybe this is a smart move.

Late last year, it was officially announced that Norrington, who has been "laying dormant" since directing the disastrous LXG in 2003, would be remaking The Crow. Norrington is an accomplished sculptor and from the sounds of it, he's got a very distinct style that seems to cater towards darker, gothic subject matter like vampires. Whenever I hear about projects like this, I always get the feeling that one of them could eventually turn out like the next Equilibrium. But until we see or hear more, it's hard to say. Though this time, I've got to say that I'm not interested in seeing Dorff or Norrington return in this way. Thoughts?

I liked Blade Trinity for what it was. I wouldn't be pumped for this prequel.

I'd like to see a 4th Blade film though I bet they would just reboot the franchise with a new lead.

Frost was a great villain, I wouldn't mind seeing a spin off.

At least we'll know he doesn't die in the prequel

I loved Blade Trinity and would like to see a fourth film but I'm not sure about a prequel without Blade in it.

But who would be Blade? We've already seen what a terrible idea it is too have someone else play Blade from the TV series?

He was great in the first, I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel with him. So will this be a 'Bladeless' prequel?

If that's the case, then the series would have lost it's 'edge'

It's always difficult to craft a movie around a villian, particularly one you know is going to survive. Curious for more details as this doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I really question whether they'd make a trilogy with Steven Dorff as the star. I would think they'd try to get someone younger and more famous. The only way I could see Dorff starring in this is if it's fairly low budget.

I would love to see a new Blade film. I'd have to say my favorite villain from all three films was Stephen Dorff's character Deacon Frost from the first film. So to see a prequel with him coming back would be kind of cool.

The part I find really disturbing is that they're remaking The Crow.

Crow isn't going to be a reboot.

Quote:
Not long ago we told you that Alex Proyas was pretty peeved off about the remake of his original classic starring Brandon Lee. Today comes word from Mania that the proposed remake is not actually a remake at all. It will be a reboot of the franchise in a way.

According to a source close to the film the script written by Stephen Norrington will be "very different from the original - a whole new story about a whole new character."

So even though that may sound all nice and dandy.. its still nothing new. It doesn't take much to take an already established franchise slap the title the Crow on it and ship it out. I would feel much better if he would just call it something else completely different if it is going to be SO different from the original with an all new story and an all new character.

That's good to hear, but I hope they do something with the title to indicate it's a different character altogether. Sorry to have pulled the thread off topic.
