Default The Machinist...

Just curious as to who here has seen it and what your thoughts are about it. I just finished this film and all I have to say is... WOW. Just a really good freaking movie! Keeps you guessing about it's surprises until the end, and then it really delivers with a good ending. Sort of reminded me of how I felt about The Prestige. Good stuff, just thought I'd see if others shared the same opinion

Yeah, I didn't even mention the picture quality. Looks phenominal on Blu-ray. It's not a special effects or audio intensive film, but it does the format proud. I got this on Netflix, but thinking about a purchase now that I've seen it!

Saw years ago on DVD and its the film that turned me into a big Bale fan. After seeing it on Blu again it was just as good and, I as well am thinking of picking this one up to add to my collection.

It is amazing what Christian Bale went through for that role. The movie is decent but his dedication to the role is incredible.

I love it when Bale mocks JJL's character at the end. "Oh baby, baby, i'm gonna change my life for you baby!!!"
Brutal, but funny.

I was back in Germany when the film came out. The US Base I lived near never got the movie on DVD so I had to go out and look for it and I got the German R2 DVD of it:

Thought it was good, but expected better. The "tunnel of horrors" scene was excellent. I still bought out it on blu when I got it as part of a B2G1 deal.

I thought the ending was meh...

Also a big Bale fan, which is why I decided to finally get this from NetFlix. I have seen and own most of the ones you mentioned... Rescue Dawn is on my Netflix list, and I will be seeing Public Enemies in the theater shortly. Lots of good stuff to see, I guess!

I've been a fan of Brad Anderson films for awhile now and when The Machinist came out, he became one of my favorite directors and I look forward to his films. He has a good grasp on humanity and bringing out subtle and complex emotions in his films.

The Machinist is a great psycological thriller. Bale's performance is incredible plus his appearance in the film is scary. (I still can't believe he did Batman Begins right after this, it amazes me)

And during his preparation for Batman Begins, he was told he gained TOO much muscle weight! Unbelievable

I'm not gonna assume it was steroids, unless you're saying you know for sure somehow. he gained a lot of mass, not just muscle. and after losing so much weight for a role we do have reason to believe he can pull off something like that.

Yeah, it was just weight in general, cuz they joked on set that he was 'Fatman' not 'Batman'.

I expected a bit more from the movie. Aside from Bale's incredible dedication, the movie itself was a bit thin as well. Not bad, but not great either.

I just love JJL continuing her tradition of playing skanky characters...I really think she lives vicariously through her roles.
