Fox is really stupid for not doing this in the US and is even stupider for only giving us the PG-13 version while the DVD has 2 Un-Rated versions and in the case of AVP on Blu-Ray they included both versions on 1 Blu-Ray, but of course that disc didn't have any special features.

It's clear that they are only interested in making as much money as possible with their first Blu-Ray's just like they were with their first DVD's back in the day when they also charged $40 a disc and then double-dipped down the line. I was really excited when Fox announced the 4 Die Hard films coming to Blu-Ray but the more and more information comes in about how Fox is screwing the US consumer just makes me want to wait until Fox gets the point that we know they are up to no good. You'd think the other studios would tell them they are messing things up for everyone by doing crap like this. If Fox was really concerned with Blu-Ray winning they'd have their catalog titles priced at $29.99 like everyone else.

I personally think Fox is hoping Blu-Ray fails that way they can re-sell all of their previous Blu-Ray titles on HD-DVD that way they can take the consumer for even more money.

I can only imagine the photographer taking those cover shots...

"Bruce, baby, look right for me..."

"Oh yeah, that's hot! Box one done, baby! Now, look left!"

"Sweet! Oh my gawd! You are a sexy animal Bruce! Box two in the can."

"Brucie, baby, sweet buns... hit me with a glance right and down."

"You nailed it! Box three!"

"Okay, step back two steps and throw me some Easy-E gangster leeeaaannn.... "

"Yes!! You are truly the original gangster, Bruce! Box four done... let's go get lunch and watch some strippers for the rest of the day."

I just confirmed that NO Blu versions of the movie coming this year will be the Unrated cut.

Blu requires a very long lead time, and the unrated version was finished after the press tour, so they could not get it to compression in time.

Remember the Blade Runner "even if we finished it today, we couldn't get it compressed in time"?

It's funny that Fox could get "The Marine" Un-Rated on Blu-Ray but not "Live Free or Die Hard". It's all just an excuse to double-dip by Fox, nothing more and nothing less. If they originally intended for an PG-13 release there would have been no Un-Rated artwork on the Fox Blu-Ray site as well. Fox just realized they could milk this for all it's worth. I give the Un-Rated version 3 months after the PG-13 cut to be announced. Guaranted Fox also has a 2-DVD set version of the movie they will release at the same time also. Fox had no problem pulling over 20 titles earlier this year but now they are dead set on releasing Live Free or Die Hard day and date no matter what, something is up. I'll buy the trilogy but am staying away from Live Free or Die Hard on Blu-Ray until Fox announces the real version.

Because

A- "The Marine" sat around for months before being issued
B- If you read what I wrote, the Unrated version was not finished till quite recently

If you don't want the PG-13 version, don't buy it, you're right the unrated is undoubtedly coming sooner rather than later.

Is it Die Hard 4.0 because they'll release the UNRATED 4.1 months after?

Boo on double-dip. I'll wait....

Yes that came from Fox, but the "sooner rather than later for unrated" part is based on general behavior of studios, not any acutal statement.

Die Hard 4.0 is the international title.

I suspect this may be why the US isn't get a 'Quadrilogy'.

This leaves the option open for people to wait for an unrated cut on the 4.0 movie.

Did you join these forums just to bash LFODH and Fox? seriously! you have done this like on 3 different threads. If you dont like it... dont buy it. But dont sit here and try to ***** about double dipping. Every studio does it. They did it with DVDs also. Its just the way they want to do it.

Heaven forbid that a company wants to make a couple extra dollars. I admit its a ***** and I will also admit that I am pissed off as well, but in all honesty, is it really that big of a deal? If they had never even released the box art that said UNRATED, you never woulda been the wiser. You wouldnt have *****ed in the first place.

So do us all a favor. stop *****ing about Die Hard. If you think that FOX is screwing us. then boycott them yourself. Quit trying to convince other blu fans that we are getting the shaft. The more people you convince the longer this war will take.

Lets move on shall we?

Regardless, I'm buying it on November 20th. I think people are making way too big a deal about this. While I would have preferred the unrated/uncut version, I'll eventually get that too.

In the meantime, John McClane will be kicking @ss and taking names in LFoDH in HD in my theater on November 20th. For $22, it's well worth it.

If the unrated cut has boobies, then I'm upset. I like boobies. I admit that.

If not, I'm not sure without further investigation. Most 'unrated' cuts I have seen don't vary much and usually only have one more use of the F-word is all. If that is the case, then:

I'm not buying any Die Hard movies until they are all released on Blu-Ray on their own. I only want Die Hard, not 2, 3 or 4.... The only reason they are doing a box set is most people will only buy the first one... This is how they sell the others just like with Spider-Man. I'm betting they sell more Spider-Man 3 via the box set than individually. I'm not buying that one either. Besides Batman Begins is way better than Spider-Man. Batman Begins is the most awesome superhero movie made to date. Can't wait to see Dark Knight... and I want Batman Begins on Blu-Ray now WB!!!

The longer Fox pulls the same crap the longer the war is going to take. People are not going to buy $40 catalog titles and I'm not the only one pissed at their Die Hard 4 decision and is going to buy the DVD instead of Blu-Ray because of it. Right now HD-DVD has more going for it, plan and simple and that's what is keeping the war going. Blu-Ray doesn't have the advanced features or internet capabilities of HD-DVD and now with Paramount and DreamWorks gone they don't even have the studio support they once had. People say Transformers is a nothing release but the fact remains without Dolby TrueHD it still has alot of features and alot of exclusive HD content. The same cannot be said for most of the Blu-Ray releases coming out. I'm format neutral and I know I've bought a hell of alot more of HD-DVD's than I have Blu-Ray's and their's a reason for it. Die Hard 4 is just one of them now.

Try telling that to Universal and Paramount. Especially Paramount.

Fox pricing has to be revisited. However, people will buy something high on their "want" list even at a high price, albeit not the same amount of people at a lower price.

The PG-13 DH4.0 was the most unfortunate decision that lead to the BD specs. Really unfortunate.

I disagree.

The advanced features, while nifty, really takes the backseat when it comes to feature film. What Paramount demonstrated with lack of TrueHD (yet alone PCM or DTS HDMA) on Transformers is pathetic inspite of their rhetoric. VQ and AQ of the feature film must come first.

The internet capabilities, while nifty, is not a make or break feature either. It still relies on downloading content. If you don't have a high speed ADSL connection, you're screwed. Most of the HD-DVD players do not have enough persistant memory storage to keep the stuff you've downloaded in the player anyway; you have to keep re-downloading.

The ONLY feature that would've been missing was PiP and internet content. The rest of the HDi stuff can be replicated with BD-J. Do you really think the internet content will have a 5 minute video at 480i/p?

Actually, not a lot of HD-DVD titles coming out in this last quarter of 2007 use PiP or internet connectivity. Fairly broad statement there.

I guess you're not going to get the DH trilogy on BD then.

BD-J is great is your player can handle it, right now most of the people that own a standalone Blu-Ray player won't be able to handle any of those features, they will have to buy a new machine in order to use them. Sony won't even comment if the PS3 will be able to handle all the BD-J features officially yet, and only time will tell if that their patch turns the PS3 into a dud machine like so many Xbox 360 patches did to their system if they do officially release a patch to add BD-J to the PS3.

Look that information up on highdefdigest.com or thedigitalbits.com and they will confirm that until Oct. 31st no player is confirmed to handled all of BD-J's features. They will handle the movie and some features but not necessarily all of the advanced features, such as PiP or Internet Interactivity to name a few. That's the whole reason Warner's major HD-DVD title have not come to Blu-Ray yet, they are waiting for players that can handle the features.

BD-Java is a programming language. You're talking about hardware profiles, not BD-J

And no, they haven't brought the IME titles to Blu-Ray because the HD forum paid them not too. It's not a coincidence that there's 25 titles, the vast majority with NO IME, all AAA level that haven't come to Blu-Ray. As 300 showed, and as Potter 5 shows, Warner has no problems bringing titles to Blu without IME.
