I thought this was great, will definitely pick up the 4K release! I enjoyed 5 but this is definitely an improvement. The 3D however was totally pointless, i'd recommend seeing the 2D version.

[Show spoiler]I loved how Chad is like the new Dewey nearly dying in each movie, hope they keep that going for the inevitable Scream 7

[Show spoiler]The problem is that it happened with nearly every character in this one. Gale, Kirby, Chad and Mindy got fatally stabbed a ridiculous amount of times and survived. They either need to stop pulling punches or figure out a way to make the survivors win without resorting to that. It just ruins the stakes.
Other than that, I enjoyed it and it was a big improvement over 5.

It really bothers me!
No they don't...that's part of the meta joke the franchise runs with, for that film. We have Halloween, Halloween, and Halloween. Which one is which is only when you designate something else to it...like Rob Zombie's Halloween, or Halloween 2018. The fact that Scream 5 is titled exactly the same as the original and it has the plot that it does is hilarious and right on brand for this franchise.

Enjoyed this entry. Better than 5 (which is the worse one in the franchise in my opinion).

I take it that Best Buy doesn’t have an exclusive on this because I haven’t seen one listed on their site.

Like everyone else, I'm not a fan of when they just reuse the first movie's title for a legacy sequel (even when my favorite franchise does it). I get the marketing purposes behind it, though. And in the case of Scream (2022), where they were poking fun at legacy sequels, it actually made sense.

It was probably a combination of factors. 4 was marketed very poorly. 5-6 very had the whole Paramount machine behind them. 4 was just another sequel with the same cast. 5 was a “reboot” with a new cast and supporting appearances from the old ones for fanservice/continuity. 90s nostalgia was still niche at best in 2011. Movies with snarky in-jokes weren’t taken as seriously in 2011 (compare Marvel movies then to Marvel movies now); I remember people my age finding Scream 4 to be “cheesy” at the time. Horror itself was in kind of in a dead period in 2011, especially slashers. Also back then, if you wanted to get caught up on Scream 1-3, it was more work to find the films (I believe they actually were streaming on Netflix at the time, but it wasn’t as ubiquitous as it is now). Now you could just binge them all on Paramount+. The new films have Jenna Ortega, who is a huge Gen Z star (even more-so now). Emma Roberts and Hayden Pannettiere didn’t quite have the same appeal. Basically there was just a combination of factors that made the series feel really creaky to young people in 2011.
This is dead on. I still believe 4 is still one of the strongest entries in the series. Still relevant, it’s commentary.
I agree completely. And 4 was pretty good as well; I have it toward the bottom of my Scream rankings, but that's moreso due to how strong I think the other entries are.

Interestingly, the same thing happened with the Halloween franchise. Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) made only $39m worldwide while Halloween (2018) made $260m.
I don't know if I'd want to compare the two in this case. RZ's Halloween II was a sequel to a remake which was VERY polarizing (and just two years removed from it), whereas Scream 4 had the same creative team and cast, in the same continuity, over a decade later.

[Show spoiler]characters survive fatal stabbings which is absolutely insane. Radio Silence and the screenwriters are too cowardly to kill any character. Gale especially should not have been in it at all as they write her into a corner.

Still, it’s a lot more fun than 5. Just don’t expect anything on par with what Wes and Kevin did.
I agree with what you said in the spoiler part.
[Show spoiler]They did not need to keep all four of those characters alive, especially Chad (nothing against the character or his actor at all, but he should NOT have survived that).

Agreed, none of the Scream films are bad. 3 is definitely the weakest, and I agree with a lot of critics that it felt like the kind of slasher movie that the other Scream movies poked fun at, but it was still good at what it was, and there are elements that keep me coming back to rewatch (specifically, Parker Posey's performance was entertaining as hell).

I wouldn't consider Jason Takes Manhattan one of those "only watch to survive through" films, though. I mean, sure, I'll pick one of the first four, or Part 6, to watch over it almost every time, but I don't think it's that bad in comparison. Now Jason Goes To Hell, on the other hand...

1. Scream
2. Scream 2

I think these are the only great ones.

3. Scream 3
4. Scream 4

I think both are just okay. I think Scream 3 does a better job with characters development and gives everyone a fitting conclusion to their story. The issue is mainly with Roman and how he never interacts with Sydney so that whole clumax just feels empty.

Scream 4 has a good twist, but something just feels off about this one, the characters are pretty much wasted, Sydney is out of character and they don't develop throughout the film.

I think both films have a goofy humor, and I think relying too much on the "Stab" franchise was a bad idea.

5. Scream 6
6. Scream 5

I find both passable, a little bland and they don't really have anything interesting to say.

From best to good:
1. Scream 2 (Did everything what the original did but better imo)
2. Scream (Classic)
3. Scream 5 (Great legacy sequel)
4. Scream 6 (Almost perfect til the 3rd act with its plot holes and plot armor)
5. Scream 4 (Way ahead of its time and has my favorite killer reveal, Jill)
6. Scream 3 (The funniest; Parker Posey is comedic gold, most entertaining entry, and has my favorite Sidney character arc)

Hopefully that date is just temporary, but Sonic 2 took 4 months to hit disc since they wanted to push Paramount+.
