I've only seen two, A Woman Under the Influence and The Killing of a Chinese Bookie. Out of those two, I slightly prefer the latter. Both are excellent though.

A Woman Under the Influence, which is emotionally harrowing without being utterly depressing, and boasts an unforgettable tour de force by Gena Rowlands. I had never seen anything quite like it when I bought the Criterion DVD.

But my answer might not mean much since the only other films of his that I've seen are Faces and Love Streams. Next up are Shadows and Opening Night.

Probably A Woman Under the Influence then Husbands. Gloria suffers from having probably the worst "performance" ever by a child actor.

Pretty hard to decide. Love Opening Night, Husbands, AWUTI, on and on.

I have all of the BFI releases which are all are great. For me Chinese Bookie is the best, such a strong and involving atmosphere. Other favourites are Opening Night, Shadows and Love Streams.

A Woman Under the Influence (1974) is a clear winner for me.

If I had to rank the films:

1. A Woman Under the Influence (1974)
2. The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976)
3. Opening Night (1977)
4. Faces (1968)
5. Love Streams (1984)
6. Husbands (1970)
7. Shadows (1958)
8. Minnie and Moskowitz (1971)
9. Gloria (1980)
10. Too Late Blues (1961)
11. A Child Is Waiting (1963)
12. Big Trouble (1986)

I like the first seven in the list, the rest aren't as good. But all in all, several strong entries.

Faces was unlike anything I had seen before. I didn't like the style all that much and would have preferred it be in color. But it was interesting and worth seeing.
