On the above player there are two omissions; what are they?
I'm sure there are more than just two, but them too jumped out quicker out of the blue. |

Same for me, @Lozin. Panasonic UB820 will be my last player. I love the player and I swear by it. It's done me well. The less I use it now the better for longevity/as backup. Since it is rather slow and secondary to that? Plainly most of the movies I own I play them as remux through plex. And what with grading of my collection myself a plan over time, esp Disney stuff? I see 75+ moving to 99% of the time. Eventually.
Something like 5 years down the line I'll be fully digital even for the newly minted discs that year and loving it. The Panasonic will be purely for some unforseen future to have to use to keep my home video hobby alive; or the random times the LAN is out. |

My last BD Player is the Panasonic BDT330, bought back in 2013 and still connected to my Sony UHD TV. I really don't use it anymore I have gone all Digital Streaming. I have a Vudu Collection of close to 1K of Movies and TV Shows!

That thing is ridiculously overpriced.
On a different note: can someone please explain to me why you need XLR outputs on a 4K Blu Ray player? That seemed to be the one of the big reasons the Panasonic 9000 is double the cost of the 820 (and yes the chassis build), and honestly curious why that addition on X player justifies such a huge price jump? Me I was looking very quick @ the universality (versatility) of disc formats support. 1. DVD-Audio wasn't mentioned, 2. And neither 3D Blu-ray. * That small conver on the front I'm pretty sure it's a USB port behind it. Nice to see you sir ![]() Quote:
Other than that it's superficial; it looks serious but practicality and sound quality aren't on a advanced level, unless*. It's the same with the Panny 9000 deluxe. But @ least the 9000 is much more affordable, without SACD, without DVD-Audio, but with 3D BR support. * Fully balanced XLR connections in order to get superior sound needs to be all in, from the outputs to the inputs. The circuitry and the components used need to be properly implemented, seldom rare, unless very few Ultra high-end pro audio units (very expensive). What we need is a professional review by a master audio/video reviewer with objective measurements. If ever I find one you can bet I will post it here. |

☆ It does support DVD Audio and 3D Blu-ray. It's a "Full True" Universal player.
▪︎ https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1681112297 And it is a USB port on the front, behind that small dust protective door. "It has a unique two colors front: Black + Dark Gunmetal. USB is protected with a dust cap painted in the same color." ![]() The main board is 6 layers and includes an ultra low phase noise TCXO temperature-compensated crystal oscillator and the same quad-core Mediatek MT8581 processor chip, while the dedicated stereo output board is 4-layers and uses high grade ELNA, NCC and WIMA audio grade capacitors. Digital to analog conversion is handled by ESS Saber PRO 32-bit Hyperstream II, 8-Channel Audio DAC’s. An ESS9028PRO drives the 7.1 RCA outs while a ESS9038PRO that support up to 140dB DNR drives the balanced XLR stereo outputs." Last edited by LordoftheRings; 04-11-2023 at 06:36 PM. |

Is now the time to buy that last player? I've been holding out, not wanting to jump in and put time on the motor, parts and warranty. Quality will continue to diminish, though, so I probably shouldn't wait too long...
By the way, does everything UHD still support 3D? |

You mean if all 4K UHD Blu-ray players still support 3D Blu-ray discs?
I think the majority do. From the source to front projectors 3D is still well alive. It's the TV manufacturers who lost part of their marbles, IMHO. That's too bad because nowadays some flat panels are huge. And 1080p (each eye) is still impressive. Anyway, one day ... glasses-free. It is inevitable. |

This is all speculation, but my last Blu-ray player might be purchased in the year 2046 and it will be a 32K Blu-ray player model that replaces my year 2036 16K Blu-ray player model.

I don't know. How can anybody say what their last player will be. I'm 52. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. I'm guessing that my pretty new blu-ray player will need to be replaced at some point.

I'm looking forward to a professional review with objective measurements (ASR or the like).
Yes 3 grands is a lot of money, and so is the built quality and premium parts and construction and universality, including 3D playback support (for AWOW 3D Blu-ray, whenever it comes), SACD. ![]() Of course for roughly half price ($1,600) you can get its smaller brother, the UDP800. And, if it is still too expensive for the videophiles and audiophiles members of this thread, the Panasonic 9000 is also a serious player well built for roughly $1,000 The reviews are excellent and the owners are happy people. _____ Going lower the ladder is not part of why I started this thread. There are plenty of players in the $150 to $500 range. We know them we use some of them. It is fair game comparing with other players in that range, one to three thousand dollars, like the three mentioned above. And, if eBay is an optional source of shopping for you, you can certainly buy a used Oppo 205 in that high range. That would count too. There's no doubt that the Magnetar UDP900 has what it takes to elevate it into the biggest tank of them all, in & out. It is the newest super tanker on the block and I bet you can land a plane on it. Figure of speech of course but you know what I mean; it is a mean machine, a battleship, a nuclear submarine, the largest cruiser, the biggest aircraft carrier of the seven navy seas ... ![]() ... That's all, very simple. The largest advantage is when the player is separated by a long distance from the preamp, say 20 feet or more (roughly). It wil cut down the hum (noise) generally associated by long runs on unbalanced RCA interconnects. That's about it; 99.999% of people are in no need of XLR balanced connectors. And there is much more to it; like truly fully balanced from outputs to inputs (most audio components are NOT). ▪︎https://www.audioaffair.co.uk/blog/x...-a-difference/ Quote:
* Some folks like the solid connection of XLR; but you can have a very solid and secure connection with RCA interconnect cables too, some having locking end connectors. For short runs of less than six feet (2 meters), RCA jacks are just fine. |
