Default HBO’s THE IDOL and THE LAST OF US

HBO’s THE IDOL and THE LAST OF US

Anybody know when either of these two HBO shows drop?

If not, does anybody at least know which one is coming to HBO first ? I know both will premiere in 2023, but I assumed we’d know which first by now

Finally they’ve scheduled a date. I’ve been hyped to see The Idol since the first teaser trailer from November

I’ve been waiting ever since the summer of 2021 when The Weeknd announced it

It’ll be two years I’ve been waiting-

But I fear it might not live up to the hype I created for it because I’ve read about the production problems and re-writes and crap…etc

I still can’t wait, but I better lower my expectations or I risk being let down

As for the Idol:

well, it wasn't as bad as they say it is, but there are plenty of problems, if Depp was ok in the role, the problem is mainly The Weeknd himself - there should be someone really charismatic in such role, and here we have some bland dude, ineptly posing as some mysterious guru-type. His acting was terrible. As if that wasn't enough, there are also his embarrassingly bad songs in the background. And when I've realized he was behind this project as a producer and with "created by" credit... well, instant cringe overload.

The second problem is that there is not enough plot for 5 episodes and they drag a lot (especially the first two, but then it only gets a little better) - slim it down to 2 hours movie and it would make the watch much better. Introduction of the main character's ex-boyfriend is very clumsy (they pull him out of a hat at some point), and the ending could be better, but at least it ends in such way that there is no need for continuation.

5-6/10, something like that.

The idol - episode one is all the best stuff, then it gets so dumb that it's lol funny. The whole thing is so self important.

Yeah all great points

It definitely did NOT live up to my hype

It could have been (should have been) great!

THE IDOL was amazing and pure entertainment. In another five years people will love it and talk about it the way we talk about SHOWGIRLS now.

Well, that's possible. Showgirls vibe was present most of the time. And main male character was badly cast in both cases too

I like "Showgirls" if anybody ask, but its not boring.

It’s just head scratching for me that anyone could watch something as hyperactive and over produced as THE IDOL and call it boring.

But the giveaway here is calling the acting bad, the character bland, and the music cringe worthy like these things aren’t deliberately built into the show.

It is SLOW, barely anything happens. I could cut it down to 2 hours without losing anything pivotal to the plot.

This exactly. The Weeknd's portrayal of this completely pathetic loser was so good that it made everyone watching it think that he himself was the loser lol it's so strange how basically this entire show flew over everyone's heads.

Whether you like what it's doing or not is one thing, but it seems like a majority of the criticisms I've seen of the show are people just genuinely not understanding what it's attempting to do

It moves slowly, and not much happens. I could reduce it to two hours without losing any important plot points.
