Do you take a lot of photos, videos? Galaxy S24 Ultra would be a nice option too. Anyway it's nice to see Oppo on top of camera phones. I don't know how long is the support though; certainly not like Apple. * You have a new avatar; Shazam!? |

Ok, I got that (no Apple echosystem for red).
I don't know exactly for how long Oppo support their phones. And, if you can get their newest one (Find X6 Pro) in the USA. After Apple I believe Samsung offers the longest support time; 4 years of Android firmwares, and 5 years of security patches. That's an important factor for people who are poor (most of the majority US and world's citizens). Your Note 20 (Ultra?), I would keep till the S24 Ultra. Then check the exchange offers on Samsung website. That seems to be of interest to you. In time I would post a short video from a guy (sakitech) who's pretty good on all things Samsung phones related, and more. Here's a sample for example: Your phone: ▪︎ https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gal...eview-2149.php Or read more reviews on the Oppo Find X6 Pro to see if it fits your mojo. Looks like a serious camera phone. If avail in North America it should be around $800-900. But I don't know for sure. The European MSRP I believe is about 820 EUR. In Canada, over $1,000 ... more like $1,200 with the intercontinental rate exchange. * I was humorous about Shazam! It looks like a very nice solid bicycle company; Specialized ![]() |

I'm not one to upgrade/trade-up my phone every couple of years. I'd have kept using my Note 3 after the first 5 years if my most used apps didn't stop supporting the older Android version which was no longer being updated/supported (I'm not one to jail break it, either, to get around it). I still use it to this day as an infrared remote.
But Samsung seems to be getting worse and worse with their software updates/support. That's the only reason I would have any interest to dump the Note20 (yes, it's an ultra) and give a company like Oppo a try given their past rep and personal experience with their blu-ray players (R.I.P.). Although I almost was enticed to trade it in for the S24 Ultra when they were offering up to $800 off a couple of months ago, but I figured that would just relieve my headaches for 6 months until Samsung starts screwing things up again, which seems to be their pattern now, so I passed. That has been the history with every Samsung product I have owned that had internet capability the last 10 years. Two 8000 series UHD smart TVs, two 4k UHD blu-ray players, Note 8 (replaced the Note 3), 2 prior Galaxy smart watches, and now my Note20 Ultra and my Galaxy Watch5 Pro. The only Samsung product I have had in that time span that ran rock solid without issues was a plasma TV I bought for the bedroom 10 years ago, and only because it was a dumb TV, no network capability, and I never updated manually. Edit: Also the Note3 was pretty solid. Last edited by red_5ive; 04-18-2023 at 06:03 PM. |

The S24 Ultra will be released next year, January-February 2024.
The S23 Ultra was released February 2023, two months ago. Specs wise (S23 Ultra vs Find X6 Pro & Find X6) ▪︎ https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php...idPhone3=12106 If $800 was offered in exchange of your Note20 Ultra, that was a generous offer. Only you can decide. And if you are getting sick of Samsung's software/firmware updates and support, and that Apple isn't orbiting around your radar, ...then Oppo seems a viable alternative; that is if you can get it. Check the number of years for support (main firmwares and security patches). It's a personal choice the phones we buy and the features we use the most. For me personally the budget is on my plane, and the cameras. Over $1,000 is too much for a phone; I look @ around $500-600. For photos of a better calibre I look @ a DSLR camera, a tripod, and time to set up things. But there's no doubt that some camera phones today are quite sophisticated with AI. I'm a DXO Mark enthusiastic reader, as you can already tell. Plus plus plus ... Red, you know like me that no phone is perfect; they all have their pros and cons. @ the end it's the compromises that we're ready to accept more or less. With Oppo Blu-ray players life was simple; they are the best all around. With phones it's a different ballgame. It's Android (various) or it's Apple. There is also the availability for each country, the prices, the support, etc. For camera performance (the main essence of this thread), I'm keeping up-to-date the latest. ...Like Super Mario Bros. ...Kid's stuff. ![]() |

Ben, one of my favorite top camera smartphone reviewers ...
* Extra: ** A month ago: ▪︎ Camera smartphones are getting more and more evolving with amazing pro photo and video features that you put in your pocket. The performance is getting limitless. Compared to a real camera (DSLR, Mirror less) it's much faster by a mile and much lighter. It's the portable future now in the pocket of your jeans. Xiaomi and Oppo and Honor are @ the top of the camera phones. Google, Apple and Samsung are second league. It is what it is. Only the best ... Last edited by LordoftheRings; 04-19-2023 at 06:23 PM. |

Xiaomi 13 Ultra disassembled on video
For your eyes only. Some smartphones are built better than others. If you open a recent iPhone Pro Max series the internals are very well put together; clean, organized and with premium parts, like a well built Blu-ray player or power amplifier or loudspeaker or subwoofer. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra above is remarkable in its camera modules design and technical advancements. It's not a phone with a camera, it's a camera with a phone. Can't wait for Pro reviews by pro reviewers (benchmark camera measurements & objective comparisons). This could be the top gun of camera phones. |

I posted this on the Mobile Phones thread ...
▪︎ https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=179 Now, this is the thread dedicated to the cameras of iPhones and Android phones. This guy is a professional photographer, along with his wife. Skip the promoting stuff @ the beginning (quite short) and jump right in. What matters is the truth; being well informed to make the right decisions for our own personal uses in life...here the right camera phone, and also the right people behind the scenes. We're into phone cameras More to come ... |
