Dang! I totally missed this. Is the collectors edition really sold out already? Bummer!

I knew about the collector's edition a couple of months ago. But I wasn't sure if I could afford it then. Now that it says it's sold out, I regret not pulling the trigger. I'll drag my feel a little longer on ordering the standard release, in the hopes (or maybe it's hopeless) more of the collector's edition appears on their site. I'm intrigued with the new aspect ratio and the PQ of course.

Omg it is? If that’s true I’m buying this. The only other Umbrella release I have is The Coneheads. I bought it when Umbrella released it. It was way before paramount released their blu ray. And that one played fine in my player no issues.

Yep, my copy was just delivered today and I can confirm that it is region free! It also is looking great so far! A noticeable improvement on the previous release. Definitely worth the upgrade!

Yeah west coast. About 2 weeks roughly? I think the first few days it hadnt actually shipped yet they had just printed the label and sent the tracking number so it might be faster now.

I got the disc-only version, mine arrived today in Texas. Very nice packaging, it's got a lot of extras (that I won't list).

I only had time to spot-check bits of the movie so far. It looks good from what I've seen! Nice grain too.

How much better than the Lionsgate Blu-Ray?

I haven’t had a chance to finish it yet, but so far It’s a lot better. Its an improvement in all areas in my opinion. You can make out so much more detail, the colors are much more vibrant (when they’re supposed to be) the film grain is lovely, and having the new aspect ratio option is really cool. Overall I think it’s a large improvement!

I received my copy from Umbrella too. I'm on the West Coast too. Took about a week and a half.

Just played the opening from both the Lionsgate and Umbrella discs. Looks like Umbrella's 1.85:1 format trims off the top and bottom of the 1.33:1 full frame we're accustomed to seeing on the Lionsgate disc. I've only ever seen it in full frame, so it gives me the feeling that I've traded out something for a widescreen image, a little buyer's remorse if I'm being honest. The 1.33:1 full frame version is also included as a bonus feature.

I agree with everyone else here who received the Umbrella release that the image offers more detail than the Lionsgate release, especially obvious on their main widescreen version. For example, the glowing optical effect on Dr. Frankenstein's test tube after it's been electrocuted stand out more than they did on the Lionsgate version to me. Colors are better but not significantly much imo. The picture quality still has a softness about it, but overall it's better than Lionsgate's.

I checked on screen and the Umbrella disc is a longer cut by about a minute.

I watched the 3-minute intro by Rick Goldschmidt. I know nothing about the production of MMP?, so I'm looking forward very much to listening to his audio commentary. I'm optimistic that his commentary will offset what I'm feeling about the widescreen crop. I'm just so used to the full frame from my Lionsgate! LOL

Wondering how much of an improvement is the new "colour correction" version? Is the remastering on the 1.33:1 version as well?

Yes, the full frame 1:33 version is the 2023 remaster as well. The easter egg is an episode from an old Japanese children's show called "Princess Comet" and they used It , the "King Kong" puppet from the film. It's dubbed in Spanish with no subtitles though.
