Toronto - Unobstructed View is proud to be releasing the only North American licensed version of Hellgate on Blu-ray, coming to stores and in digital release on June 27, 2023.

This 1989 cousin to the Hellraiser series is a classic example of the era of South African cult horror production. Directed by schlockmeister extraordinaire William A. Levey (Skatetown USA, The Happy Hooker Goes To Washington) Hellgate opens with a motorcycle gang kidnapping a young woman, Josie, from a diner and brutally killing her. Many years later, the girl’s father finds a magic crystal that can bring the dead back to life and uses it to re-animate his daughter. He lets her seduce any young men who visit the small town–Hellgate–then kills them. This release includes all the bonus features from Arrow’s UK release of Hellgate plus the full-length documentary Images of Apartheid: Filming On The Fringe In Old South Africa. The limited first pressing will come with a collectible O-Card.

I'm with you. I recall this getting quite a bit of hate when Arrow released it. It's been a while since I last watched that disc, but had a good time with it during my last watch and so I'll likely be double dipping as well.

I actually owned this on laserdisc back in the day! This is a real guilty pleasure and reminds me a tiny bit of MESSIAH OF EVIL in spots... it's not a great movie but it does have some effective atmosphere and creepiness...

Yes but they’ve released stuff too, mostly Canadian content like Corner Gas, Kenny vs. Spenny, Summit 72 (hockey doc.), etc.

Well this is the North America sub-forum and UV is North American and ships to the US and Canada so I thought this was the appropriate place to post the thread. If other people then decide to post new threads in other sections there's nothing I can do about that.

UV is a Canadian company, therefore it's a Canadian release, targeted at a North American audience. Its origin alone should be an indication of why it should be in the Canada sub forum and not in the general North American one. We have so little to call our own. If Americans don't want to be bothered going into that subforum because we mean nothing then whatever.

I shall delete my Canadian thread.

My guess is it is region locked. This is from Diabolik's ordering page:

You’re getting riled up for nothing. You think it’s because “we mean nothing,” or more likely, because there’s so few general Canadian exclusives that people just don’t visit that forum, and thus this release would have limited visibility?

I never check the Canadian forum. I wouldn’t know about this release otherwise, and last I checked, Canada is part of North America.

I like this film too, as terrible as it is. I rewatched it a couple months ago for the first time in awhile and had forgotten a lot of stuff that happens in it. It's a cheap-looking and ridiculous flick, but there are fun moments. A very strange film. I have the region B Arrow disc, so I'll probably pass on this, but I'm glad to see it's getting another release. I am assuming there is a reason involving the rights as to why this hasn't had a Blu-ray release in the US.
