For the record, both the 1993 and 2023 Mario Bros. movies count for this, as does both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 (and any future releases possibly for both franchises).

I was never a fan of the CG-cartoon/live action hybrid movies. The only ones that did it right (at least as concepts) are movies like Roger Rabbit or Space Jam, and that's in part because that "hybridization" is part of the plot of the movie.

So even though I'm a Sonic fan (Mega Drive games), I guess the new Mario movie is the best.

Super Mario Bros while I like the Sonic games I have not enjoyed the Sonic films at all. I have enjoyed both Mario Bros films.

I have to go with Sonic. Having Jim Carrey was a blessing and the fixed Sonic design also was a blessing. I also found the sequel to be a huge improvement on the first film.

I enjoyed both Mario movies and also found the new one to be an improvement over the first, but my favorite character in the mario world (Waluigi) largely goes unnoticed and unloved. At least with the Sonic movies, my favorite character (Shadow) and potentially my second favorite character (Metal Sonic) will both get their dues, even more with the former being teased for the third film.

In general, I prefer Mario as a franchise, including games...

But just taking (and including all) the movies, maybe I should have said Sonic. Jim Carrey has a lot to do with that.
