It's obvious to me that this is going to take the 3dFA crew a while to put together. Even if they put all their other pending projects on a complete hold! I hope I live long enough to see the results.(LOL)

I see 'Indiana' played it with Boo Moon in 3-D and a 'new type of Polaroid glasses'. While the 'GLEN Theatre' played it with Lumber JackRabbit.

As a 1954 release, for the most part, I'm surprised they didn't film it wide-screen.

It was filmed in March and April 1953, just before Paramount and the industry transitioned to widescreen cinematography. The intended AR is 137:1.

Bob any chance Boo Moon can be added to the release as it was included in some of the initial bookings.

It would be nice, but because this is a work for hire gig for us, and it’s a licensed title from Paramount, I highly doubt it.

Does the fact that Paramount licensed it for a 3D release mean we're any closer to a Hondo 3D blu-ray?

[QUOTE=cinerama;21066079]12/31/53 One night only in 2D in LA

Hal Wallis had great success sneak previewing Martin and Lewis films on New Year’s Eve, and was following the pattern. Ironically, Technicolor did not have 3-D prints ready in time so the sneak preview was shown flat.

By time the wide release happened in February 1954, 3-D movies were on their deathbed, so the vast majority of playdates were 2-D.

This and a whole lot more will be covered in a new documentary about this complex and unprecedented 3-D restoration.

More details soon…

Seventy years ago, on May 1, 1953, filming was completed on Hal Wallis’ 1.4-million-dollar production of MONEY FROM HOME starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis; one of the most significant Golden Age stereoscopic features. However, very few people saw it in 3-D when it was released in early 1954.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has secured the license and 3-D Film Archive will be restoring this three-dimensional gem for 3-D Blu-ray release. For the first time on a vintage 3-D film restoration, preservation 4K scans are being done by Paramount Archives from the original Technicolor YCM 35mm camera negatives.

This is an unprecedented preservation effort and to recognize the significance of this important archival achievement, Sean Thrunk of Crimson Mountain Productions is producing a new documentary that will detail the complex and painstaking work going into this massive 3-D film restoration.

Check out the YouTube link and watch the 3-D News page at 3dfilmarchive.com for updates and additional information on this VERY exciting project!

Thanks for that helpful video. Great to see this finally happening after all those years. So Money From Home 3D was a major reason 3-D Film Archive was started. Cool! This should be awesome in 3-D. Looking forward to it. Plus in Technicolor. Thank you!

Good to hear there will be exclusive footage extras and details on the blu ray 3D disc.

Hi Bob,

Our thanks for making this great announcement on video. It's more exciting than suddenly receiving some actual "money" from home.

3D Archives does it again!

This is all very interesting, and I look forward to learning more.

Considering the relatively lengthy post-production period, I'm surprised Technicolor couldn't manage to have the film ready to go in 3-D for the New Year’s Eve premiere. Perhaps the complexity of the process caused issues. I know films like House of Wax certainly didn't have anywhere near as long as that.

This restoration will be an incredible opportunity to showcase 1950s state-of-the-art at its very best. Unlike many other titles, I imagine there will be zero colour fading to correct. It promises to be a major highlight, both for the era, and maybe for the 3D-bluray format in general. Endless gratitude to Kino Lorber and Paramount for giving this the go ahead.

Here is the YouTube announcement from Bob Furmanek of 3D Film Archive announcing this. It is a really interesting video as it gives some good background on the movie.

Can't wait!!!

There are several reasons for the long delay in getting MFH released.

Wallis-Hazen had left Paramount shortly after production and were in negotiations with Warner Bros. to distribute. They eventually worked out a deal with Paramount.

Martin and Lewis had their production of THE CADDY set for an August release and the studio did not want two of their films competing for business.

Of course, these details - and a whole lot more - will be covered in the new documentary!
