This is not just one of the best thrillers of all time, but one of the best movies of the 80s. Has a tour de force from 2 brilliant actors at the peak of their powers and a brilliant script.

I had a BR that I think I lost but I was hoping for a 4k, this quality of movie deserves it. If it has many extras perhaps Id double dip

Great cast, but I found the movie to be mediocre.

really? I don't usually say this because we all have different tastes and its possible that someone doesn't like this movie, but give it another try if you can or want. Its really a very interesting movie that has more than one reading and a certain depth, plus the give and take between those two is superb and very entertaining

I watched it in 1988, and again a few years ago. My opinion hadn't changed.

I really wanted to like it, too.

It's too bad this one wasn't licensed to Kino, or another boutique label. Perhaps given a better scan, and some extras. Makes me wonder if Kino passed on it, or if they were never given the opportunity to license it.

Olive's cover art is better IMO

There is opportunity for improvement, Olive was an old transfer on a BD25

Given its MGM though, I am not getting my hopes up and am thinking it will probably be exactly the same

All I care about is if it has subtitles. If it has that, I'll gladly get rid of my Olive disc.

Down to $14.49. Not sure if I want to take the gamble...I mean it's got to have subs, right?

Someone did post the back image on an ebay listing.

No mention of subtitles but to be fair, part of it makes it sound like a dvd. Who knows

I finally broke down and bought it when it was at $13 again(w/coupon) for a hot second. I am happy to report that it does indeed have English subtitles. I did a quick comparison with the Olive disc and it's certainly the same master but the MGM might be a bit cleaned up...or perhaps I'm seeing things. Either way I'm pretty happy and got what I was hoping for.

EDIT: By the way, the MGM disc is a BD25 no surprise, same DTS 2.0 audio, same aspect ratio (1.85, no cropping to 1.78 thankfully). What was kinda a surprise is that the movie file for the disc is 19 gigs while the Olive disc is 21 gigs (I don't really have the capability currently to do a proper BDInfo scan). However, as mentioned the MGM disc seems cleaned up to some degree so it's really odd. Also, not sure it matters but the subtitles are English, not English SDH. (Meaning no music cues, sound effects, etc). Anyway, still happy about it, I'll submit some information today. Not sure about region code, I only have "A" players. Thanks.

MGM disc reviewed by Dr. Larson https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Best-...337641/#Review

It's a pity they couldn't get the 20min interview with Larry Cohen from the France release

That MGM back cover looks like a bootleg lots of talented people on this forum could have done a cover for MGM. They only needed to ask

I'll stick with the Olive Films release
