You realize there's gonna be no increase in quality, right? Standard-def material shot on video simply can't be formatted for HD.

The only point would be to fit more episodes on one disc. Would you really re-buy it for that reason alone?

Coming to America was shot on film. Film has even higher resolution than blu-ray or HD, so you can scan it and downsample it to HD with excellent results and clarity.

Martin was shot on videotape, at lower NTSC resolution. There's really no way to get any better picture quality out of the source than you already have on DVD.

You could upscale it I guess, but that's about it. The source material just isn't high enough to be HD.

That's right. Anything shot on standard-def video is not gonna look any better on blu-ray. You can certainly fit more episodes (in fact entire seasons) on a disc due to the increased space on blu-ray discs, but that would really be the only benefit.

Shows shot on film or natively in HD, however, can look phenomenal on blu-ray.

They are both broadcast in HD and are available on blu-ray. I believe they are either shot on HD cameras, or on 35mm film. My guess is 35mm, but I could be wrong.

If you search for shows on IMDB, and click on the "technical specs" link on the left hand bar running down the page, it'll tell you the format the show was shot in.

Well a lot of older shows were shot on film as well, even going back to the 1950s with I Love Lucy.

Most sitcoms were traditionally shot on video, and most dramas on film. But those are just generalizations, there are of course comedies shot on film (Cheers, Seinfeld) and dramas shot on video.

Most modern shows, yes, are broadcast in HD.

This is one of those shows that had me in stitches as a child. In retrospect it's still funny but not 'laugh till my sides hurt' funny like it was back then. It's a bit dated to the new jack swing era like In Living Color but brings back memories.
