United Kingdom Planet of the Apes Collection

can anyone tell me the difference (besides the packaging) between the US Planet of the Apes 40th Anniversary Edition, and the Planet of the Apes Collection out in the UK?

I have the US version, but would like a B release.

Lucky you, having the US version I covet so. I want it, but it's region locked, Right? The booklet looks great. The US has the extended 'Battle' movie, the UK only has the normal 'Battle' with the extra scenes as extras, not integrated into the film, shame on Fox for shafting us.... as usual. I've not bought the UK version yet, it's just too pricey, saw it in HMV this morning... £85, they're having a laugh, robbing bastards! If you have the R1 version, why would you want the R2 version?

Typical the store asking for £85 one reason I don't shop in store.

Just get it online for arround £50.

Yeah its locked 'A'. I would like to get the R2 version so I can use my DMP-BD60 instead of using my laptop, just to avoid the niggly thing of pluging in the HDMI cable, pressing FN+F4, switching the audio to PCM etc. if the 'Battle' movie is a different version though, I might think twice.

The packaging is pretty cool, and the book is good too, but the discs are held in place directly onto the cardboard, and its pretty hard getting them back onto the little soft plastic circle without having to wriggle the disc and possibly get scratches.

I'm so envious that you have the gorgeous Region A set from America.

I get that the packaging for the US set isn't shelf/disc friendly, which is an issue for me. I do really want that coffee table book though, as well as all the content that's on the US discs.

Anyhoo! Packaging differences aside, as far as I'm aware, the difference between the CRAPTASIC, POINTLESS, RUBBISH UK set and the US set are that the EFFED UP UK set is missing:
  • Original English Mono tracks on all five movies
  • Isolated Scores in DTS HD MA 5.1 on all five movies (UK set has isolated scores in standard, lossy DTS 5.1 only)
  • Six galleries across three of the films
  • Battle for the Planet of the Apes doesn't include both cuts of the film via seamless branching in the UK, just the "extended scenes" available to view as an extra feature.
Be aware that in some European countries (e.g. Holland) all the films are missing DTS HD MA 5.1 English audio. DTS HD HR 5.1 English audio is offered instead.

Hope that helps!

The reviews on dvdtherapy.com are essentialy useless to me because they NEVER actually list the disc contents properly AND ARE OFTEN JUST FULL OF MISINFORMATION. I never bother to read them for that reason.

Extras are never listed in any detail whatsoever and neither are language/audio/subtitle options. Packaging detail is often either missing or just plain incorrect!

Information on the audio/video codecs used is limited and bit depths/sampling frequency for the audio tracks is never mentioned.

The UK Planet of the Apes review you linked to is a perfect example of how poor the reviews on dvdtherapy are:

In your review of the UK set you list "Original Mono" and "200 page booklet" as being included. THE UK BLU-RAY SET DOES NOT HAVE ENGLISH MONO ON ANY OF THE DISCS NOR DOES IT INCLUDE A BOOKLET OF ANY KIND!!

The above makes me wonder if you actually physically watch the titles you post reviews for!?

That DVD Therapy review is hilarious, it's obviously a case of someone who's never seen the set just cutting and pasting a review of the US set.

Typical of the Internet really, people without a clue setting themselves up as experts.

I do have the set, and the packaging has actually grown on me. It is very shelf space friendly, and I probably would never have looked at that coffee table book a second time anyway.

It's a shame we don't get the extended Battle, but it's not the best film in the series either.

Unlike in the US, we in the UK rarely receive finished product. The discs we receive are screeners, and although they feature the film as it would be on the final release, no packaging or disc art is included. Because of this, we go by press releases for many of the specs such as what will be included with the releases and what the packaging will look like. We were told that a booklet would be included. Sometimes audio tracks feature on the screener and not on the final release and vice versa. We do make mistakes of course but often errors are completley out of our hands and unfortunatley, unavoidable.

As for subs/languages, this is something we are looking into as we have a lot of international readers, so point taken.

Audio/video codecs & bit depths/sampling frequency? It is unlikely that we will include this information in the near future. Are the majority of our readers interested in bit rates and video codecs? No. Do you they want to know if we think the disc looks and sounds good? Yes. We'll leave these technical aspecs to other sites who see fit to include this sort of information for people who need it.

I had the UK set (screeners) in my hands and posted to one of my reviewers so what you say is a load of rubbish. We do not copy and paste from anyone. Our thoughts are our own and we are never influenced by other sites. At no point have we ever claimed to be experts and nor would we. We write reviewers for others to read - simple as that. We don't expect everyone to agree with our opinions but if we can help anyone make a decision on a particulalr purchase then great.

It would help your case if your review was factually correct - but if you want to copy and paste incorrect reviews from another site, that's your business. LOL

Hello,

What 'factually incorrect' information in my review are you referring to?

Claiming that I copy and pasted another seemingly inaccurate review not only besmirches my name but the name of DVD Therapy.

I'd be happy to entertain your issues with my review in PM's, as I'm sure the Mods would prefer.

Best,

-Grant

I don't really care, and have no desire to talk to you in pm.

I'm not the only one 'besmirching the name' of DVDTherapy.

There's no smoke without fire.
