Question Will you still go to movies now that you have Blu-ray?

When I bought my WideScreen TV and DVD player, I said I would never go to another movie. Well, Ghost Rider, Spiderman 3, and others were the exceptions as will be some future movies.

But now that blu-ray is here, I wonder if I will go to even fewer movies than before, and simply just buy the ones I want to see.

How about you?

maybe if i had a bigger t.v. than my 37" i would feel that way, but for me nothing is better than seeing a movie on the big screen

For the most part I lost interest in going to the theater years ago. Last movie I saw in the theater was Star Wars Episode III. I much prefer watching at home and now that I can watch movies in HD, that just seals the deal.

great question....since i've turned my living room into a movie theater, we definately go to less movies. movies seem to be going to bd and dvd much quicker after their movie run. so, waiting to buy or rent the summer blockbuster is acceptable. there will always be a couple movies that i just want to see in the theater though. bourne ultimatum is one that comes to mind.

There is nothing like the comfort of your own home, I would rather watch a movie on a clear screen than watch it on a not so clear giant screen.

I used to go a lot, and if i go less its not because of Bluray, but because of ticket prices and audiences filled with jerks. if there is still a movie i want to see really bad, i will go see it. if i only kinda want to see a movie, i dont go casually anymore, i think about it first.

Never went to the movies anyways.
DVDs (pre-Blu-ray format) were played back on my laptops.
Now that Blu-ray exists, and I have a Blu-ray laptop... even less reason to go to a theater!

Nope. I stopped going to movies some time ago.

Why spend $20-$50+ when I can wait, but the DVD (or Blu) for $20ish or less and watch how I want?

$5 drinks? No thanks.

The last movie I saw was Transformers when it came out. And I only went because I was viewing it in a VIP room (Las Vegas).

Take a family of 4 to a film and tell me it doesn't hurt no matter what your income is. Can I afford to drop $100? Yes. But how stupid is that?

And now that I have Blu-Ray, I'm done with theaters.

The last movie I saw was Pirates Of The Caribbean At World's End. Since I have my PS3 and a Sony 50" SXRD, not to mention Blu Ray, no way in hell will I pay $10 to see a crappy movie. I'll just got to my local BB and rent that same piece of crap for half that and pause when I have to piss.

Come on now, you cannot ask me this question. I have over 70+ films on BD, as you can notice I love movies, plus I do not want to wait for months for a movie to come out. And for some of us this will be the only for us to watch Universal’s and Paramount’s films in HD.

I guess it all depends on where you live and what kind of theaters you have by you. A couple of the ones near me all have digital projection and it looks awesome, and yeah there are alot of reasons not to go, but i for one enjoy the thrill of seeing something for the first time with a whole room full of people who are too, seems like it makes it that much more exciting, it's the experience. plus depending on the movie i want to support that director so he/she can keep making quality films since that's what i want to do someday and would want the same, though of course in many cases they do get money from the blu-ray or dvd as well (probably not from the HD-DVD since that's just the way they roll ) So i say if you have a decent theater nearby just do your research so you can choose which ones are REALLY worth going to!

I try not to. Every dollar I spend at the theater is a dollar I could spend on blu-ray.

How does Sony suck with audio? I love my Sony earbuds, the sound quality is amazing.

Until i have a home theater system that can compete with a real commerical theater in my house I will continue to go to new movies. Then Ill buy the good ones on blu-ray and enjoy them again when they are released.

I dont see why blu ray would stop people from going to theaterical releases unless u dont like to leave your house And its always fun to take the wife out to dinner and a movie.

I'll go less.

I've gone less for a long time anyway. I've seen Star Wars III and Spiderman 3 but before that I think it was X-Men 2 which seems long ago.

Theaters around where I live are horrible, terrible. If I had nicer theaters then maybe but around here they don't have sloped seating ... they just put the screen way up high so you have to keep your head uncomfortably tilted. Then there's the spiderwebs all about the theater and the way they don't pay attention if the movie is off the screen consider-ably on any particular side.

I used to work in a theater and a teen and I love movies at the theater but that was in Miami where even traditional multiplexes like AMC were mostly in great shape and provided a good experience. Near me it's the pits.

-Brian

p.s. My projector and screen setup is 72"x40" in a dedicated HT room I built myself and I watch mostly Blu Ray's either that I buy or rent from Netflix and the local theater can't begin to compete.

Blu Ray and Block Buster have come a long way toward keeping me out of the theater...........

But I'll always still want to go see GREAT movies on the "big screen" and in the dark........
