Default Car Tag?

Did you ever play car tag?

The thread on cliques got me to reminiscing.

We played this game in our (or our parents') cars. You pick a subdivision and set boundaries that you can not leave (honor system). Two people in a car. One car was "it", and you had to physically tag one of the other teams cars with your hand (which is why you need a driver and a tagger) to make them "it". It was good if you could corner them; tagger jumps out and makes a tag.

I don't know how we never got caught. Easily 50 mph in neighborhood streets with 25 mph limits. We'd play at night, headlights off when you were not "it", and we'd pull fuses out to keep brakelights and parking lights from coming on. My mother never believed me when she asked where I went (over 100 miles on the car some nights) and I said "never left the neighborhood".

My wife and I bought ourselves a new convertible Corvette, drove it home, and handed the keys to our youngest son - 17 years old at the time. It had 20 miles on it. Told him to go show it to his friends.

The car has about 60K on it now, six years later, and not a scratch on it to this day. Both of our sons drive it, and other sports cars and utility vehicles we own.

My folks gave me the same trust, for good reason.

Never had to BS my folks, and my kids never had to BS me, either.

Not in cars but I used to do that with snowmobiles all the time in NH. It was a blast, and fairly dangerous when you are flying down a snow trail at 45mph trying to cut off the person you need to tag. Quite a few times we had to bail as the snowmobiles were flying towards each other. Thank goodness for 2 feet of fresh powder.

Never BS'd them. I suspect a corvette impacts differently than a Mercury Topaz, too. Still, I always told them where I was or where I was going. If I was drinking, I'd spend the night and drive home in the morning and told them I'd been drinking (why I didn't come home). They didn't approve of the drinking, but they could be sure I wasn't driving around drunk ,either.

I played car tag but with post-its in parking lots while at work. Randomly tag your friend's/coworker's cars.

Does shooting bottle rockets from car to car count? You win when you get it in their windows.

That's crazy.

We used to load up with water balloons and chuck them at passersby through the sunroof. We also did the air charged, water filled fire extinguisher thing to passersby. When you do such things, you need a good and confident driver. You will sometimes get chased. Only once did chasers catch us. I was indeed fearful. We were unarmed but they had baseball bats. They did no human harm, only vehicular harm. It was not my vehicle that day.
