I wouldn’t call it nostalgia. It’s true that DS9 wasn’t treated fairly by audiences at the time, it was up against the affection people had for TNG and the epic B5, not to mention the new kid on the block, The X Files. DS9 did start to get the recognition it deserved in the later seasons, and then as a whole soon after. So I’d hesitate to call it nostalgia because whilst not love at first sight, it’s not like decades went by before people started raving about it.

DS9 is just as good, but it kicks off with some important background info that you should get from TNG seasons 4-5 first.

Wouldn't even consider anything that's come out in the last 10 years.
Oh ok so like oypthers have said, I should start with season 3 of TNG then.

Is season 1 and 2 of TNG worth going through then? Was told to start with season 3.

Yeah I saw on the other thread you were going through them . Are you also a first time watcher?

I really would start with the first season. There is some crud but also some really good ones. I think it's essential to getting to know the characters.

Thanks. I’ll give them a watch on paramount plus then buy the ones I like on blu ray/dvd. I assume they have extras too like making of?

Trying not to spoil stuff but there's an essential arc for a character that returns in season 3 and goes on to appear again later that will be meaningless unless you watch season 1

I think you have everyone's permission to skip Angel One, Justice, and Code of Honor.

No way! S1/2 has some bangers and the low points are not as low as the Internet would have you believe.

I'm still bummed that (in Picard S1) we never got a glimpse of Riker's closet that showed he still had the outfit from Angel One.

No one needed that.....

I do tend to agree however, S1 and S2 had some corkers in there.

They have their good and bad episodes but I think it’s important to start from the beginning, that way you’ll appreciate the characters and the show more when it really starts to hit its stride.

Yep, I’m a first time watcher. I watched TNG during the pandemic in 2020 and last year decided to watch everything

It's said here before, but just watch them in the order they were released.

And yeah, also New Trek. I've just rewatched Picard and am now rewatching Discovery (with the UHD of Strange New Worlds to follow) and maybe an unpopulair view here, but I'm liking them even more the second round. Don't exclude them from your viewing based on hearsay, but form your own opinion .

Deep Space Nine might be my favorite, but I would start with Next Gen. Once you've finished that, move onto DS9, and then Voyager. All three are excellent and worth watching all the way through.

No. There’s a significant difference and drop in quality between the very good and excellent TNG/DS9 and the mediocre at best Voyager.

The only Star Trek show I have on Blu-Ray is TNG, which was the version I grew up on as a kid. Its aged pretty well, all things considered. The earlier seasons are filled with '80s cheese at different times, but that's not always a bad thing. By the time the series ended at Season 7, it felt like the show had earned a proper finale...and then they did four films based on it.

I had a memory pop up when I saw the cast of Voyager, I must of watched some of it back when I was a kid (my dad watched them way back)

To this day, I don't get why people condemn Voyager. It was pretty ambitious for its time, placing a ship 70,000 light-years from home and having the characters grow on one another to form a surrogate kind of family, which they would need to survive. I liked most of the cast, and thought most of the episodes were very well written too. My only criticism was I felt they relied too heavily on the Borg in the later seasons, but it was still a fun show to watch overall.

It's pretty good and I think it was the last one to get 7 seasons. Just doesn't quite measure up to tng, ent and ds9 for me.

The characters held Voyager back IMO.

I don't think it's a bad series, it's just nowhere near TNG or DS9 for me.

Chakotay, Kim, Neelix, Kes....they were relatively weak for me. For the latter part of the series almost everything good revolved around the EMH, Seven or Janeway, and as mentioned, the Borg, oh my god the Borg, enough already!
