It will be even more disappointing if part 2 (Beyond the Spider-Verse) is in 3D since this one isn’t. If they do that, hopefully they finish the 3D master of this one and would consider selling a 3D combo of part 1 and 2 together at some point.

I'm glad to see that there is finally some public reporting around what I was mentioning earlier in this thread - the film's behind the scenes production nightmare.

With production this crunched and scattered, it's no wonder they didn't have time to compose the film in 3D.

With all the troubles that are coming out over the production of AtSV it’s no surprise there is no 3D and high likely there won’t be 3D for Beyond the Spider-Verse. They are going to have a hard enough time getting the movie out full stop.

Why don't they just say that they didn't want to spend the money in the 3D conversion instead of these lame excuses?

lol. Dude. They aren’t ‘lame excuses’ because there’s nothing to excuse. I feel like I’ve seen you push this big illuminati style conspiracy about studio execs smothering and stifling 3D when in reality they fumbled the ball with home 3D implementation and moved on to something else. If it was truly a serious money maker in that format, and beloved by enough people, they would have kept it going.

There’s no ‘excuse’ to be made here because there aren’t millions of rabid 3D fans demanding an answer. This is (as is sadly too common nowadays with various forms of media) a report on the working conditions at the studio, which are clearly awful. To read about that, which is spreading awareness for poor work conditions, and say it’s an excuse for no 3D version, is borderline offensive imo. The artists on this movie were being made to work 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crunch culture is a serious issue that needs to end yesterday. It’s got nothing to do with 3D.

This is studios enforcing 4K and streaming and cutting costs.

So if Sony is ok with 3D then why didn't other Sony movies like Uncharted were converted in 3D? They could have delayed these movies until the 3D conversion was done and still make money. They didn't because they don't want to waste money on 3D conversions, pure and simple.

I think it was a time constraint not a money constraint.

Would they go to jail if they delayed it to be converted? Or was this a WB execs like manouver to get their bonuses and scrap 3D to get those bonuses?

I still remember Sony crap move on No Way Home editing colors and CGI only in the 2D edition when the 3D was well done just to amp cinemas' 2D version so people would complain about the 3D being bad and unfinished compared with the 2D one.

But I understand that some people in here will believe whatever the studios let workers say and will watch whatever the studios releases even if it will be in 2D just because they can't control their compulsions.

The sad thing about conspiracy theories is there is always a rational and boring explanation, but that’s not interesting enough for people that thrive on drama and need to feel like they are privy to ‘special’ information nobody else is. Often times the real conspiracy is out there and supported by data and logic, but because it doesn’t involve bloodletting or (for example) studios trying to stifle 3D freedom fighters in the 4K wars, conspiracy theorist types aren’t interested.

Like the No Way Home conversion. Sony was tweaking that movie until literally after the release date. They pushed the version with updated CGI to cinemas after the film had already been playing. There was quite literally no time for the conversion team to adjust their conversion to match the last minute updated CGI, because the movie was already out. It’s literally as simple and as obvious as that. The fact somebody could make a conspiracy out of this simple chain of events is mind boggling… but some people have to feel special I guess.

There's a new JFC conversion of this I was going to check out maybe this weekend, wondering if anyone has seen it and has any thoughts?

What a wasted opportunity, even in 2D this movie on my projector looks in 3D on some scenes (the beginning specially).

Yeah, took a quick look into it.

I guess it is more stressfull to follow all the action on the screen without the seperation of layers provided by 3D.

Never heard of JFC conversions before. Anyway, to my uneducated 3D eyes, Across the Spider-verse looks pretty good. Certainly better than watching it in 2D.

With all due respect, those amateurish 3D conversions are not official/approved by the director of the movie, and I also think are not legal. Having said that, for me is irrelevant to discuss that kind of content in here.

Seeing as how this film was never created in 3D or converted to 3D, unfortunately there's nothing relevant to discuss in this thread any more.

Funny you should say that. I went through the thread checking and I'm surprised no one came across the following quotes. The source isn't particularly credible, they have zero sourcing for their "reports" and I can't find any corroboration, but it's still interesting:

Surprisingly the first film of the series which was released in 2018 and won an Oscar hit the big screens in both 2D and 3D format. However, reports revealed that there wasn't much of a difference between the two versions as even after the conversion the art style remained identical. The films of the series have been created with 3D animation as compared to 2D movies that are converted to 3D formats.
...
The studio also had to create specific software to help artists design the film and the animation is expected to get better with each release. Even without the 3D glasses Across the Spiderverse will look the same as a 3D movie should have.

Interesting.

They're not wrong though, Spiderverse2 is so blurry that it does look like a 3D film should...when viewed without 3D glasses.

It still brings a sad smile when I remember the people in my showing thinking it was a 3D movie, because of the intense blur, and asking the staff for 3D glasses.

(Meanwhile, Spiderverse1 was hailed as the most/strongest 3D in a superhero film by my ole watch grouo )

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse in 3D is ultimately superior compared to its stupid brother 2D. It's like comparing coach(2D) and executive(3D) travels. Sure both fly... but only one flies better than the other.
