Default DCU's Huntress (Korean Production)

Looks like Gunn is making his universal global: https://twitter.com/rDCEUleaks/statu...AkwQRJH1Q&s=19

Not a Racebend but rather a whole foreign production in Korea with a cast/crew from there.

I'll believe it when I see it, but the possibility is cool. Jung Byung-gil would be an obvious choice.

That's an interesting, unexplored wrinkle on how to exploit the lower-tier characters in the IP by essentially assigning it to a foreign production crew. Could be a clever way to bring in revenue for the brand without the same expectations as Hollywood productions often demand.

That's cool. I'd love for this to happen. I admit I was hoping (in the early days of Marvel Studios) that Canada and England would do Alpha Flight and Excalibur TV/film productions respectively.

This makes me happy because that means that none of the other actresses from that shitty BOP movie are gonna continue in Gunn's universe.

Which means maybe we can get the REAL Black Canary to show up.

Not really, they could keep Harley and the rest of Gunn's Suicide Squad (which they probably will) and ditch/recast everybody else.

Love the foreign director approach to this, though. The CBM subgenre could certainly use some fresh blood with all the recent flops, looks like the bubble is bursting.

Could this be because of the writer's strike? It'd be cool to see more foreign-language movies produced by major studios.

It’d be nice if this was filmed in Busan. Or, even Daegu.

It would be amazing if it went to Netflix since Korean programming is insanely popular on the that streaming service.

Anything seems possible in the WBD era but one would think they'd focus on Max with DC content.

This is reportedly still happening, but it’s a TV series, not a movie:

Quote:
Sources tell Nexus Point News, that these projects have been in development since the DCU’s conception. As reported by DCULeaks in July 2023, a Huntress project was in development for the DCU. The project will mostly be in Korean and will feature Helena Bertinelli, depicted as half-Korean and half-Italian. It was later reported by DCULeaks that Jung Byung-gil (Villainess) was attached to write and direct the series.

The intention is for Pom Klementieff to portray the character within the DCU. This has never been formally confirmed due to no deal being set in place at the moment. It is currently unknown whether or not a deal has been made for Klementieff to officially portray Huntress, but if it were there is a possibility the character can appear in projects prior to Huntress. Since the project’s announcement, fans have heavily speculated that this would indeed be Klementieff’s role in the DCU and have begun to speculate whether or not she would debut in season 2 of Peacemaker due to her being present on set as part of a set visit with Gunn.

I don't understand why you'd do this. I would watch a DCU show but I have no interest in a Korean production (unless it's dubbed into English). Just make it an English language production like most of the audience will want.

I have no problem watching foreign shows as I watch many of them but this is a bad idea. Unless they dub it and make it accessible to the average person this wont do well as its supposed to be part of the DCU that many people wont watch or even get a chance to watch depending on how they release this.

You shouldn't have something be part of a cinematic universe if only a small percentage of people will be able to even see it. Also depends on how they tie it into the DCU as well.

These international shows, from what I've read, are intended primarily for the audiences of those respective countries.

They may not even be shown in the US. Or at least, that won't be the highest priority.

According to to this article and a few others the shows are still part of phase 1 of the DCU Gods and Monsters. Like I said they may not have anything to do with future movies or characters in a big way but I still think its a misstep to have some shows as part of the DCU that only get very limited exposure.

Quote:
Superman director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has previously mentioned that there are a number of projects in various stages of development that have yet to be announced as part of the "Gods and Monsters" slate (and beyond), and it seems at least a few of these mysterious movies and/or TV shows are going to have an international flavor.

Yes, they absolutely are DCU; we just don’t know for a fact how “limited” their exposure will or will not be, because there haven’t been any official announcements.

Gunn has said repeatedly people won’t need to watch everything in order to enjoy the movies.

In Gunn I trust!
