Warner Archive will be releasing the western Wichita (1955), Directed by Jacques Tourneur, and starring Joel McCrea,, on August 29th.

Joel McCrea stars as former buffalo hunter and Western entrepreneur Wyatt Earp in this CinemaScope® oater directed by the great Jacques Tourneur. Not familar with this one, but new HD master from a 4K scan of the OCN, CinemaScope, Wyatt Earp, Jacques Tourneur, and Joel McCrea have all piqued my curiosity.

Never heard of this one, but I'm craving some new Westerns, so will pick this up. Reminds that I have yet to pick up Ride the High Country.

Doesn't matter if you've seen it or not. Once you see the name Jacques Tourneur you know you are in good hands.

This is a great little western...it's one of my most wanted lesser known westerns on blu ray along with Andre De Toth's Carson City.

I pre-ordered on day one, but current status is "order received" with estimated delivery date unknown. Anyone else having problems with Amazon fulfilling their order of "Wichita"?

It is a good movie. I watched it last night and that's what brought me here. I'd seen it once before, but it'd been so long I couldn't remember a whole lot about it.

JOEL McCREA made several Westerns for Allied Artists Pictures and WICHITA was one of them.

'FIRST TEXAN, The' and 'OKLAHOMAN, The' were a couple other Western-themed Allied productions starring Joel McCrea. I don't believe those two movies are on Blu-ray, however.

Mind has drawn a blank on whether I remember checking out Wichita back when it was announced by the WAC, but have had a look at the review here (what drew my eye was that Vera Miles is among the cast) and it's going on my WAC Blu-ray film titles want list.
