Default More games becoming live action movies

Quote:
The Screen Daily and Variety entertainment trade news sources report that Convergence Entertainment has signed a deal for the live-action film rights to Gungrave, Red Entertainment's shooter videogame franchise co-created and designed by Trigun creator Yasuhiro Nightow. Gungrave already inspired a 2003-2004 television anime series by the Madhouse anime studio. Convergence, a production company based in Beverly Hills and in Asia, intends to give the proposed film a budget of US$30 million to US$35 million with Asian investment partners. Convergence head Tim Kwok will produce with Red's Yasuaki Nagoshi (Diamond Daydreams, Sakura Wars) serving as executive producer.

Convergence also licensed the rights to the British game book franchise Lone Wolf (no relation to the Lone Wolf and Cub manga), and had previously licensed the live-action rights to the Wicked City horror novel/anime story, The King of Fighters fighting videogame franchise, and the Clocktower horror videogame franchise. The King of Fighters film with Sean Faris and Maggie Q is already in post-production, while Convergence is still "prepping" the Clocktower one. Both The King of Fighters film and the Clocktower film are tentatively slated for next year.

World of Warcraft

Quote:
Update: Blizzard just confirmed the story with a swift press release! Raimi's set to direct, and Charles Roven (producer of The Dark Knight) is set to produce. According to the presser, "the film will fall under Legendary Pictures' co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros." We certainly hope they've got deep pockets -- we imagine a World of Warcraft movie won't end up being a low-budget project. Original post is below.

We know our stuff about video game news, but when it comes to film scoops, we usually bow to the expertise of Ain't It Cool News' Harry Knowles. Imagine our delight when we read a recent report from the heavily bearded entertainment reporter claiming that Evil Dead and Spider-Man creator Sam Raimi would helm a film adaptation of World of Warcraft. According to Knowles, confirmation of this story will be hitting Hollywood trade publications later this week or next.

Where is this magical, magical news coming from? We have no idea -- but Knowles seems fairly certain. With Comic-Con just around the corner, and Blizzcon just around the corner that's behind that first corner, we're sure to hear more details soon -- if Knowles' report is accurate.

Other than that, I'd like Metal Gear Solid and Half-Life to be movies as well.

I hope the KoF movie doesn't suck, but I won't get my hopes up.

It's going to suck. Judging from what piece of story I've read.
Plus after checking out some of the cast interview and their costumes, it didn't help either.

The director don't seem to know very much about KoF.

And that goes for pretty much every game-to-movie director... Silent Hill, Resident Evil etc, just to name a couple...

Well after the blockbusters that were DOOM, Max Payne, and Hitman you had to have known this was coming.
