Default Does anyone know anything about my speakers?

They're a pair of Dahlquist DQ-86.3/II towers, purchased about ten years ago. I've searched the net, but I can't find anything on them. One result (here at http://www.casact.org/pubs/proceed/proceed04/2004.pdf) led me to the Casualty Actuarial Society, but I didn't have time to read the 329 pages of its proceedings.

I have, however, read some favourable reviews about the Dahlquist DQ-10 series, but I don't know a thing about mine (other than that they're pretty big and seem to be well built). Does anyone have any information on them? Specs (particularly impedance), reviews, value, etc.? Thanks.

Yes. Your Dahlquist DQ-86.3/II are about 10 years old and are "Tower" speakers. Thats all I really know about them though.

Dude, thanks, "150w 8ohm" is pretty much all I needed to know. But, how did you find that web page? Mind letting me know what your search phrase was?

Hi,

As I recall the original Dahlquist Company, NY went out of business around 1993. I have the speaker cabinets that made the company famous, the DQ-10 speakers but my speakers have been totally rebuilt.

Subsequent to going out of business, the Dahlquist name I believe resurfaced 2 or 3 times. Once or twice with a Canadian firm having purchased the TM name Dahlquist. At least some of these speakers were made under the Audiosphere Technologies Corp. name. They were part of a larger firm as I believe that may still be in business.

Your speakers according to what I have found online were made in 1997 (1998 for the version II).

You can find some information about your model in this links:
http://www.usedprice.com/dropdown.ph...id=106&pl=1700

http://cgim.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/bb....zraChNYFjwy3K2

http://cgim.videogon.com/cgi-bin/bbc...q863cs&4&zz&zz

The list of the original Dahlquist speakers and support of those speakers continues to this day by Regnar Corporation that is made up of many of the former Dahlquist, NY employees:

Dude, your response time is scary. Thanks again for the information.

But, it does not seem like my model, the DQ-86.3, is a "supported" model, at least according to the website you provided here http://www.regnar.com/dahlquist_website_046.htm (unless they fall into the DQ-8 category). Regardless, they blend well enough with my Paradigm CC-190, ADP-190s and 2 PDR-8s, and sound good in 2 Ch. for music.

No they are not supported by Regnar. I posted that information so that you could see who and what the original Dahlquist Comapany were, the products that they made in their 20 years of manufacture, and what was supported by them. I believe that your speakers were made by Audiosphere Technologies Corp. and unfortunately they are either not supported or you would have to track down who in Canada was the parent company that either made them or who supports them today. There just is not that much easily available information on your speakers.

Ah, I searched "Dahlquist DQ-86.3/II towers" on Google, and this (here at http://www.google.com/search?client=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) is the first page result. The last hit, as I stated above, is rather... interesting.

Anyway, like I said, I was just trying to get some info on the speakers. One of the links naturephoto1 provided me with (here at http://cgim.videogon.com/cgi-bin/bbc...q863cs&4&zz&zz) shows that they retailed for about $1,250. Probably not as good as the Paradigm Studio 60s that I want.

Again, thanks for your, naturephoto1's and everybody's information.

One thing to consider is that the pricing listed is for the generation before yours and also do not forget that the pricing is in 1997 dollars. I would not be surprised if that might work out to doubling the prices in todays market place, but possibly not.
