I gotta admit, I think the megachangers are really cool.

I don't think I could justify getting myself one, but I would love one as a gift.

I would hope there is a onscreen display case display system or something, you can't expect everyone to program in the name of the movie and or keep them in alphebetical order, hell, even remember that many given the time it takes to load a disk now, imagine having to go thru 400 to find the 1 disk you want after waiting for them all to load? oye vey everybody!

The players can download info from Gracenote's MusicID and VideoID services. Check out the following thread for a quote of the press release:

I just got mine today, just ordered on monday what a pleasant surprise when it showed up. It is a huge unit 2" taller then my 777es units. I am going to hook it up to a escient vision unit to control it, 4 players can be hooked up for 1600 discs.

Already ... where did you order from?

EDIT: Well it looks like SonyStyle is one of the only ones that already has them in stock.

Back when I bought the Sony CD Mega changer (yes, now obsolete) you had to type in the disc info via hooking up a pc keyboard. Obviously tech has changed but yes you can expect everyone to program in the name and search for 1 disc. It was the same idea and pretty much same design, you could daisy chain up to 4 units together for 1600 discs. I'd personally wait for Blu-ray to fully mature before investing this much into a player but to each his own.

Can you confirm the status of SACD playback on the BDP-CX7000ES?

Second that. It would be worth it if it to me if it has that feature.

The menu looks very cool. Looks like you can even sort by director, actor, genre, artist, title etc. Awesome.

I'd settle for a 5 disc model like my DVD player. I sometimes have a low attention span and am often switching between 2-3 different movies/TV shows, but these megachangers are overkill for me.

After looking at the specs for this player it seems fairly clear that it will not include SACD playback. I could understand them not including it in the press release, but the official spec sheet is pretty definitive.

One of my major complaints about the PS3 is how it organizes music files; this unit looks like it has gotten it right. Beyond organization, cross-reference, and display options, I am really looking forward to the Gracenote Metadata function (the only major weakness of the previous mega changers). The only question now is...is it worth keeping my DVD Profiler up to date?

Unfortunately, in addition to the premium price we will pay for this player North of the border (or at least the lack of deals to be had), my local Sony Store says it likely won’t even be available for another couple of months.
