PS3 may not be reserved, by brick and mortar stores due to the fiasco that happend with Xbox 360. 400,000 units are expected to cover North America, which encludes USA and Canada. If Canada receives 100,000 units (they may get less). 300,000 units must be divided into 50 states. That means 6,000 units each state if divided evenly. Obvioulsy this will not happen, as larger states will recieve more than smaller states.

Rather than dealling with the hassle of very PO-ed customers, they can just sell first come first serve. The PS3 will sell regardless.

Wii on the other hand will have 4,000,000 units for USA and Canada on 11/19/06. People who want the Wii should have no trouble finding one.

Nonsense.

There never has been, and never will be a time where a game console isn't given some kind of preorder window.

It HAS to be done to have some semblance of control and order vs. unchecked anarchy and chaos.

You're just making stuff up outright at this point on the forum.

Again, more idle guessing and speculation.

You don't know anything for sure.

Whatever.

Oh yeah, that's really going to be great! I can already see the brawls breaking out in the streets.

First come first serve = wide open battle royale!

Yeah.

Yeah, because the demand is going to be pretty low vs. the PS3. It should be very easy to come by. No preorder even necessary.

I'm not defending anyone's claims, but it has been widely reported that the US will see about 400,000 PS3s for launch. If that truly is the case, there will be a lot of issues. I believe we will see plenty of retailers doing expensive bundles and "I'll stand in line for 3 days in advance" e-bay vultures having a field day.

I see what you're saying about the ps3. Sony hasn't said how many of the 400,000 units will be the 20GB version, but my guess is a very low number since the 60Gb version is more in demand. If there would be 6,000 units for the LA area, we may have 5,000 60GB and 1,000 20GB. It might be that the 20Gb version may be made after the 60GB version completly sells out. We don't know for sure if both unis will even be available for preorder or not.

^^ Agreed 100 percent with the last two posts.

That's the problem here: We're what? Less than two months away from this huge launch and we still have these kinds of major uncertainties hanging in the air?

I wonder if even Sony themselves really has a full grasp on what they're going to do and how they're going to do it?

I certainly have never seen a preorder time window come this late in the ballgame for any new console like I'm seeing here.

Usually you see preorders happen a good 4-6 months before the launch happens.

This is going to be wild!

Apparently there is going to be a Sony event late October which will yield a lot of PS3 info. This is their last hurrah before units hit the store shelves so I'm expecting them to lay it all out.

What would the Sony event be? I still have faith in Sony, but they are keeping everyone waiting on things. I know that a key component of the ps3, the blu-ray part, which has never been mass produced, might be the reason why Sony hasn't started pre orders yet among other things. Ken even admited that things weren't going exactly as planned, but I suppose that every company has its faults. I'm wondering what the month of October holds for Sony.

I'm hoping the Oct event will talk about the following:

Online Detials (What basic online features can be used in all games? Are there Achievements?)

Linux Open Source (Will users be able to program, use and share conent on their PS3?)

PSP PS1 downloadable content (What is the pricing? What are the titles? When is the exact date?)

Playstation 3 Peripherals (How much does the Sixaxis cost? Memory Card Adapter? Eye Toy? GUITAR HERO PS2 -> PS3 ADAPTER?!)

Audio Output (Will there be 5-ch analog output?! Please say yes)

Backwards Compatability (Will they be up-converted to 720p? 1080p??)

Blu-Ray Player Quality (What is the quality of the player? Boot up time? Noise Filter?)

In response to your questions:

1)I don't think any company has online development kits for their games because Sony hasn't shipped out final developement kits propably because the online network isn't finished yet which is true. I would think that playing online for ps3 would be an extention of ps2.

2) I don't know anything about this one so no commit here.

3) A demo of ridge racer was used as an example for the psp. This may not be available on launch day.

4) I would guess the cost for the items to be anywhere from say $20.00 to $50.00 at most

5) The ps3 has an HDMI output for 7.1 surround sound as far as I know, but you could still do 5.1 surround sound if you want to.

6) I think that most ps1 and ps2 games will be playable on the ps3. The ones that don't work will be the ones that no one cares about. In terms of resolution, I would think that you could go up to 1080p for a ps2 game since the console supports 1080p, but there may be limits on that.

7) Using the ps3 as a blu-ray player, I would guess that the ps3 is build very well and it shouldn't be very noisey at all. I would think about the same as when the ps2 is on. No one wants a noisey blu-ray player. I think that boot up time will be very fast because of the fact that the hard drive in the ps3 can be used in conjuction with a disc, when inserted, the files on the disc would copied to the hard drive and then to ram as needed, much like a computer game.

I guessing that Sony will reveal all the above when the time is right.

I know what you mean. I'm just wondering what event is in October, if any because I don't know of any event that takes place in October that Sony would attend. I bet the remander of the questions answered is being kept under wraps for now. There wasn't much revealed at the Game Show. It's not even known how we will play ps1 games on the psp, although I would think that we'll download the game online and then copy the file to the memory stick where you'll boot the game from there. Sony's blu-ray disc player is due this month so I think that October will be the big month for Sony. We'll see what happens.

Starting to get a lot of indicators that October 10 will be the day that EB and Gamestop start taking preorders on both the PS3 and the Wii. The managers are due back from some conference in the next day or two and that's when the groundwork should be getting laid down for all of this.

Start working the phones this week and get ready to make a move pretty fast, folks.

I did take a look at the link, but why $700.00 for the 60GB? It's only $600.00 in the states. Thinking about what has been revealed about the ps3, now all that's left is when preorders will take place and when Sony will start mass production of the console.

who says they haven't started mass production? it would surprise me if they haven't just to make 400k units.

and $700 is the premium you pay (extra $100) to get it on launch
