I knew this day would come eventually. Network television was a post-WWII business model that worked until it didn't. So was cable for the post-Vietnam War pre-9/11 years. Someone else offered something better, and people adopted it.

They call it "the news," but it all looks like reruns to me!

When you get to your 40's, even the news gets repetitive

Here's some happier news, CBS was a hit all day Sunday:

So let the record show people are STILL watching good ol' linear TV.

Considering how much larger the population is now than the late 1970s/early 1980s (when the network used 60 Minutes to defeat Mickey Mouse while propping up Archie Bunker, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, and Alice past their sell-by dates) or even 25 years ago (around the time Touched by an Angel replaced Murder She Wrote on Sunday nights), those ratings should still be higher than they are.

But add in all the linear programming on streaming and the number jumps.

Exhibit One: Suits.

Streaming services have a significant dependency on linear TV as a programming source.

Linear TV viewership made somewhat of a comeback in August after dropping to an all-time low in July, Nielsen reported in its latest monthly state of TV report, The Gauge. Combined viewing for broadcast and cable managed to eke back to 50.6% of total TV usage, with broadcast recording its first gain since January.

Dead cat bounce.

Network TV's summer line-up has always been a dumping ground for unsold pilots and low-cost programming like Wipeout anyway.
