Bla bla bla ... I hate those articles that never get to the point. It speaks of everything BUT the point !
When I read a title that says "space exploration volunteers wanted" I expect the article to say something like: the Mars mission of July 13th 2015 is looking for a volunteer to be sent for a one-way trip. But there is nothing of the sort, no date, no mission, no actual call for volunteers, just speculation on some possible far future mission probably requiring volunteers for a one way trip. News Spam from those who wrote the article I say ! Anyways, the day there is a real one way call for space volunteers to leave this dump that is earth, I'll be at the front row. Oh and the article is wrong about one thing: the energy needed to reach stars such as Alpha Centauri does not need to be that colossal. There is a propulsion technology in development on a new type of engine known as "Ion Engine" that will allow to reach unthinkable speeds. The only catch is that the actual acceleration phase will last a very long time. In other words to reach those speeds it could take months, maybe more than a year, but if there is something you have when travelling to such far-off places, it is time. The article is also wrong on another thing: The closest star to earth (beside our sun of course) is not Alpha Centauri (A or B), it is Proxima Centauri. PS: I'm in a bad mood PPS: Hey Xtop, nice to see that Bender Bending Rodriguez is back ! Last edited by quexos; 07-25-2009 at 08:43 AM. |

If you go, can I have your Blu-Ray collection? You won't be needing that in orbit.

What the article is about is that playing around here (like the moon) is OK but real exploration (going to Pluto and possibly back or going to other star systems) will take a hell of a long time so the astronaut will need to give up his life ion earth Last edited by Anthony P; 07-26-2009 at 02:44 PM. |
