This is one of the few films I have left on DVD that I would like to swap out for a Blu-ray release.
It was released on Blu-ray here in the UK, but it's absolutely pitiful here.
This one

is marked in the database as region free. There was another one I checked that was marked as A locked but the above was reviewed on a UK PS3 so go with that one.

You shouldn't be surprised at all. It's Mel Brooks' most popular movie.

I'm surprised Blazing Saddles isn't more popular.

Regardless of whether it's the most successful or not, I'm still surprised it has as many re-releases as it does when it seems many Blus have a tougher time for exposure.

Ooh nice! I've almost bought SPACEBALLS several times over the years, still need to buy it. I saw SPACEBALLS when it was in theaters as a kid, but I'm not sure if it was the first Brook's film I watched. I may have seen YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN on T.V. first -- I thought it was one of Universal Frankenstein movies at first when it came on so I watched it. Found out soon enough it wasn't one of the Universal movies, never had a problem watching older movies and T.V. shows as a kid.

I still don't have a 4K player, so I'll probably pick up a copy of the current blu-ray too. Unless we get news that the KL release will have a blu-ray copy too, along with the current blu's extras.

It is that good! One of my favourite Brooks' films for sure. And I can think of a whole pile of films that have more re-releases that are FAR worse...

Think about it, with spaceballs you get sci-fi and star wars fans in addition to mel brooks fans. People who wouldn't normally watch a Mel Brooks film if it weren't for the subject matter.

Question now to me is whenever the 4K comes, will the movie be original or the edited c.2016 version.

What 2016 version?

The one with the missing Wihelm scream and the Van Halen song?

I've pointed this out to Kino via e-mail and the Kino thread FYI.

Spaceballs was just on The Movie Channel so I left it on in the background while I did stuff. These are the changes I know for sure were changed just by listening.

previously knew from c.2016
1) When Barf reverses the lasers with the pipes hitting the soldiers, the Wilhelm scream is removed from the last soldier getting hit and flipped
2) Van Halen Good Enough is changed from when Lone Star and Barf enter the diner for the Alien spoof scene. Strangely, Good Enough is still listed in the end credits.

Newly noticed today - when Vespa and Dot are captured by Helmet where he says "Fooled you" - just before that Dot's warning line of "No Vespa don't, Ves-" is removed. You see Dot's shocked face then Vespa collapses into Helmet without hearing Dot's line.
