In a year of genuinely really good directorial debuts, Past Lives I thought was pretty stellar. The most I've enjoyed a big-screen romance since The Shape Of Water; Song absolutely captured to me for one a genuine 'what could have happened' ennui when people grow apart that honestly I can't think of the last time a modern release has gripped me in that regard.

Whatever she does next I'm all in on.

Although I wasn't as blown away by Past Lives as most (mainly due to my personal dislike of love triangles), it's clear that a new voice worth hearing has emerged in American cinema. I'll definitely be paying attention to this project.

Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in Talks to Star

“Materialists,” which Song revealed would be her follow up to “Past Lives” late last year, is a New York-set rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. The roles Johnson, Pascal and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed.

As with “Past Lives,” producers on the project include Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler for Killer Films and David Hinojosa of 2AM. It’s believed to start production in May.

Thought this was going to be a spin-off from The Brutalist.

I love the title and cast, but concerned this will be too conventional. I want something with edge. The title and A24's involvement gives me a little bit of hope.
