Question The Day the Earth Stood Still Original Vs Remake

I watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on pay-per-view at my cousin.
It's okay movie.

I see original movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (film 1951) cause color black/white screen. it has on blu-ray.

I prefer original than remake because it look cool old film. I orderd it on amazon.com $16.99. it's not bad price and won't kill my wallet.

What your opinion about Original Vs Remake?

For a couple dollars more you could have got the 3 disc edition that had both versions of the film

I'm not rethink. I'll not buy both version. I want one

The Day the Earth Stood Still (film 1951)
G - General Audiences (1968-Present)
-All ages admitted
-No nudity, no drugs, no sex, minimal violence, and limited use of language
that goes beyond polite conversation

or

The Day the Earth Stood Still (film 2008)
PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned (1984-Present)
Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
May contain moderate language, minimal strong language, some explicit nudity, intense violence, gore, some sex, or mild drug content. This is the highest unrestricted rating.

You cannot remake a Classic no matter how hard you try , and most remakes don't even properly try to be better , only a money grab from a new generation that doesn't know any better. Improved special effects etc don't improve a movie ,but hey I can't wait for Tom Cruise and Megan Fox to remake "The African Queen"

I did not bother getting the set with both edition. Saw the 2008 version and it was ok but nothing great. I only got the 1951 version for $16, that's the one I've seen countless times and that is the one I will see countless times on BD.

Opips....

Just get the 1951 version..... It's great. The new one is an abortion.

Why are you surprised that it's B&W and on Blu-ray? There are many great B&W movies on Blu-ray.

The original was the best. Enjoyed the re-make BUT when you purchase the re-make Blu you also get the original.

I did order the 1951 version on amazon.com
I was surprised that classic movie B&W on Blu-ray. I’m sure, B&W movie cleaner picture high definition and improvement audio on blu-ray.

Don't give 'em any ideas.

The 1951 version is fantastic and among the best of it's genre. Have no intention of subjecting myself to a crap remake.

The original and the original "War of the Worlds" are my favorite sci-fi films.

Well, the original was shot on 35 mm, which has a higher effective resolution than the 1080p Blu-ray standard, so the fact that it is an older, b&w film doesn't mean that much. You can still see improvement. With older films like "The Day the Earth Stood Still", it is all about having a good transfer and restoration program for the film. This means finding the best prints and cleaning up any scenes that the studios can't find a good copy of. A great example of this is with Casablanca. They spent a fortune restoring that film to create a high-definition transfer and you can see every penny on the screen when you watch that film on Blu-ray. I didn't think the PQ of "The Day the Earth Stood Still was as good as that movie, but it still looks much better than any version I have seen of it.

In terms of this debate between the original and the remake, is this really a contest? The original by a mile.
