I watched this in 2D the other day (for free) and have to agree, this would have been excellent in 3D, I would have bought it on day 1 - shame Lionsgate didn't want to make the effort to get my money.

If you've only got one eye, sure. Otherwise you are dead wrong. All those particles and all that slow motion CGI enhanced action is a perfect fit for 3D.

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are made for one eye perception attitude!

This the kind of movie that could have been boosted greatly by 3D.

I imagine there's a ton of effects and those always play better in 3D.

As it is, no sale.

UHD doesn't have the same "fun factor" to persuade someone to watch a bad movie like the power of the 3D format has IMO. And I apologize in advance for prejudging this one

I think that's one of my favorite things about 3D. It can turn a so-so movie into a great one. UHD doesn't quite get that same jump/fun factor.
I loved Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, and OZ the Great and Powerful. Watching these movies in 2D feels Ho-hum.

Actually one of the main points of controversy with this flick is that there's relatively little actual Power Ranger action / blockbuster FX sequences. It's more of a character-focused origin story.

As to 3D, it woulda been fun I'm sure, but the way it's shot, it was definitely not framed for 3D. A conversion coulda been neat but if it WERE in 3D we'd all be complaining about how poorly it was used.

For the most part i'd agree. But there where several shoots that looked framed for a conversion (near the start the green girls staff dissolving and flying into the screen for example).

Uh, there are plenty of 3D titles available WITH Dolby Atmos- that isn't one thing you have to give up for 3D.

Not for those of us in love with 3D! I have over 50 4K UHD discs but usually only buy them if a 3D version is not available. I simply want the best format available: 3D, 4K, blu-ray, digital download (in that order).

Okay, clearly I did not express myself correctly. And I apologise for that.

Of course you guys are free to enjoy 3D. I have tons of 3D Blu-rays in my library and I'll never give those up. But I'm also a fan of Ultra HD and HDR/WCG.

When I meant Dolby Vision being "better" than 3D, what I really meant to say was this was produced from start to finish in Dolby Vision. And the UHD BD is released with Dolby Vision video. Rather than having a movie converted from an ordinary source to 3D or HDR/DV. In other words, this is about as perfect as it can get from cinema to home.

If the studios had no intention of even converting this to 3D in the first place, then I'd rather they don't do it than to rush a sloppy 3D release. For now, the reviews for the UHD BD has been very positive, so we can take pleasure in that.

I agree with you 100%! And I purchased Power Rangers 4K and really enjoyed. I also bought John Wick 2 and was BLOWN AWAY by the picture quality. It left me slack jawed! The 3D community has been bullied and taunted by many 4K "enthusiasts" and your original statement a bit like trolling. The industry has created this dichotomy in the blu-ray community by forcing us to choose between 3D and 4K (most of the time) and that has created an "us" vs "them" mentality that I TRULY wish didn't exist because I enjoy different aspects of BOTH formats. Sounds like you do as well!

Thank you. And again, I apologize.
It was never my intention to discredit 3D. I've enjoyed several 3D movies. But 3D has to be done right, or it can be a very nauseating experience.

I ended up getting the Target steelbook. Saw it in theaters on a $5 Tuesday showing and it was surprisingly better than I had thought it would be.

That's the right price, agreed. Good to hear it was at least entertaining even without the 3D.

Just wanted to mention that Power Rangers (2017) was converted to 3D by TWR Entertainment. Stereo-specific credits are listed on IMDB.

https://www.twrglobal.com/article_d....id=636&id=2674
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3717490/fullcredits/

Some Chinese posters advertised it as 3D.

https://movie.douban.com/photos/photo/2458369708/

It seems to have played in 3D in China. Here is one person complaining about the quality of the 3D.
