Ransomware Attack at Sony

VGC is reporting that a ransomware group claims to have stolen data from Sony and plans to sell it, Sony chose not to pay the ransom. No formal (media) response from Sony at this time, and no third party cybersecurity company has verified the claims. If the data breach turns out to be real, there is no indication right now that it impacts Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation.

“We have successfully compromissed [sic] all of sony systems,” the group claimed on both the clear and dark nets. “We won’t ransom them! We will sell the data. Due to Sony not wanting to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE.”

Time to change PS4/5 Password at least if they have the old ones of customers.

Even if it's real it doesn't mean they got your password and probably didn't. Even in the 2011 hack the passwords were hashed.

I have 2FA enabled and my password is pretty darn long and complicated so it's not as if anyone could enter it, anyway.

I've had my PSN account since 2010, I think, when I bought a PS3 Slim.

If you don't already have it, enable 2FA for extra protection and use complex passwords.

I know some people still prefer simple passwords or even just "password" (and the likes), but that's a really bad and dangerous idea.

yeah I also have 2 factor. Without my phone my password is useless to them. plus if they try to use it I'll know because I'll get the text lol

Good to hear they probably weren't able to get the passwords, though it's better safe than sorry since these are criminals being dealt with.

Does anyone have issues with getting code messages with regards to Sony/PSN's 2-step verification process?

I choose 2-step verificiation for every site and always get the verification code message within seconds, but for some reason not with Sony and I have to choose "resend code" several times before I finally get the verification code.

i have not had this problem with Sony. In fact I needed to do like 3 verifications today when singing up for Sony Pictures Core, and they all came within seconds. However, I absolutely have had the problem you mention with Instagram verifications. The text message often just never shows up. I wonder if it has something to do with spam filtering behind the scenes but no idea.
